Hey, does anyone know of any companies or any places online that sell custom laptop parts. I mean stuff like LED fans and heatsinks and ect. I'm lookin to customize my laptop some more, I already have a nice AMD cpu, I just upgraded the HD, it's maxed out on RAM at 1GB, and now that performance is mostly taken care of, it's onto cosmetics.... I'm lookin to replace the cheapy thin steel or w/e heatsinks on the cpu w/ some machined al. ones, but can't seem to find any. I'd also like a fan w/ LED's and variable rate. But this stuff must be compatable w/ laptops...as in, it has to be pretty small, unlike the desktop stuff.

Thanks in advance! :)

P.S. I've been stepping away from RC a bit lately and going more towards computers....and I'll be A+ certified in December! Yay!

the thing with laptops is for 1 you can't see in there so why put led's and for two companys spend alot of time designing a laptop and the heat disapation of said laptop.. you gonna be hard presses to find anyone that will carrie aftermarket items, its not like a desktop where you can go buy all the stuff and build it. if it cools fine i would leave it.. i do computers to, if you got any questions hit me up

As for not beeing able to see in there, all laptop casings are different and you can see the fan on mine. Seccondly, I know that this kind of stuff is very hard to come by and that it's not like desktops. Also, the cooling is decent, but I would like it to be better, OEM's cheap out whenever they can. And plus I have had a few laptops fry due to heat so heat is a concern to me. I already have a chill matt, but I'd like to revert my laptop back to a 'mobile' state...

Man CompUSA carries a lot of stuff like that. Don't know about lappys, but they have a good selection. Seriously tho, laptops have an issue with heat and getting rid of it. The chill mat is fire retardent I hope ;)

Fire retardant....uhhh....sure....lol. Nah, its not something thats gonna catch on fire from heat....not from the amount a laptop could ever produce tho....

Anyway, any ideas on how they paint them? I have an airbrush, and it sounds like a cool little project to add some uniqueness to my laptop....
Anyone know if they make a 'sprayable' enamel or something like that?

cvec,
to paint your laptop the easiest thing i can think of is Createx Auto Air. it is very durable but needs to be cleared over. usually a spray can clear will work. there are 147 different colors since the last time i checked their website is WWW.autoaircolors.com good luck i would love to see the outcome. i want to paint mine sometime in the near future but i can't find a way without my parents going insane.

Thanks I'll check that out. So far I'm thinking of going w/ a shiny black, and chrome or red around the hinges, and chrome or red around the outter ring of the touchpad. I have a few old PDA's that no longer work that have a similiar surface that I'll practice on once I get around to getting a job so I can have more than $6 in my pocket at any given time, lol.

wow your rich to me I've got $1 and I'm supposed to be buying a new airbrush.

its a fairly easy paint to work with. might i toss one other color to you and thats the color shift, Auto Air has a really nice blue to copper but they are more expensive than regular colors.

Man, you're right, they do have some cool little gadgets and such. As for the mat w/ the fans, I have one like that now. It's by Targus, and it has 2 fans that suck the warm air out and blow it out the back, and it plugs into the USB port. It works pretty good, but I want to add the better heat sinks and fan to my laptop so I don't have to carry the 'chill-mat' w/ me when I'm going to be using my computer for more than 30 mins at a time in one place...
