I've got a 2.5 t-maxx with a 3.3 engine in it currently. The engine is new, so I don't plan on replacing anytime soon. But I'm wondering, what's the most powerful engine that's possible to get for this truck?

I was looking here: http://www.rcboca.com/parts-accessories/engines-and-motors and was confused by the numbering (I've no idea what the 3.3 engine is at, or the 2.5 for that matter).

But is there any particular engine that you can recommend that's a lot more powerful than the 3.3...preferably the top contender.

How much modding do you want to do?

Normally people go with the picco .26

i'm not too concerned about how much there is to mod, i figured it'd be a lot (transmission, drive train, etc.). Mostly interested in giving my truck some big balls. Figuratively.

http://www.fastlanemachine.net/proddetail.php?prod=FLM16050 Get this from RC-Monster that will allow you to drop in this (your current chassis can't fit this):
http://www.amainhobbies.com/product...nster-Truck-Engine-w-Pull-Start-Standard-Plug
You would then need and 1/8 scale clutch setup (or it is 99% reccomended). this will cause you to run into a pitch problem because the bigger motor has Mod 1 Clutchbells and your t-maxx will have 32 Pitch clutchbells. so you will have to either drop in a revo spur or find some other solution. to drop in the revo spur you will need this kit: http://www.amainhobbies.com/product...id/91654/n/Traxxas-Torque-Control-Upgrade-Kit . that represents the mods you need to get the truck running with that engine. now the reason to go with the flm kit is because it has the CVs and cups and all that stuff. then your only likely to pop half shafts in the back, or differentials (which can be prevented with shimming) or strip your 14mm hexes (17 will be fine) or your transmission itself (this will depend on how rough you engage the engine).

or just buy a picco .26 and the mount.

Hah, I didn't think about needing to change chassies.

With the pico .26, do I need to change anything like drivetrain, transmission and what not?

Is it that much more powerful than a 3.3?

Additionally, can I still use the traxxas electric starter with it? Or does it have to be pullstart? Pullstart seems a pain in the butt.

No need to change anything but the motor mount. The Picco will blow the 3.3 out of the water.

The old term "There's no replacement for displacement" doesn't really work in the world of RC. IMO anything over .28 Is too big and will produce lower RPMs.

errr this is a monster truck guys so you still have to follow some rules of the design, or your just reclassing the truck. in the end this topic comes up over and over and the cheap way is a picco .26 by far and when you combine that with the fact that its italian and will outlast many other engines out there its hard to say no to it

Just throwing it out there but you can drop in an OS .18 that will out perform the stock 2.5 or 3.3 Drop in bieng just that. No modding or changing anything for around $150 total invested. If cash isnt an issue than by all means go with the bigblock. You can't beat bigblock power. But you also can't beat the smallblock price.

Cheezy start is not powerful enough to start a picco. Maybe a well worn in one, but absolutly not a new one.
