Howdy all, My 3.3 is running a little hot for my taste, not to bad about 265-300 at the highest. I still have the stock cooling head and I have my hsn richened up quite a bit (almost to the point where it doesn't shift to second) which is gross I know, but I was looking at forum posts and someone rec'd the Nova cooling head brand, I was wanting to know if anyone had any rec's about cooling heads and any opinions about the Nova brand. My LHS told me that Trx 3.3 normally runs pretty hot, but I am not comfortable with that temp. My revo doesn't show any signs of overheating other that what the temp gun says, and I am measuring from the glowplug.

Thanks all,
Ben

did yo umake enough holes in the body to let the airflow pass? usually it shold not be running that hot if you are in tune right, you can also richen up the low speed needle i'm sure to try and get the temps down. i run the nova cooling head on my picco and it looks sweet.

Yeah I have the front val cut out, the LSN is still at stock settings, havent messed with it to much b/c its a little nerving messing with stuff when its your first nitro car hehe, but ill tinker with it a little bit when i get home from work, sigh man I want to be home lol

When you adjust the LSN, do it only a tiny bit at a time, then see how it behaves. Don't adjust it till the car is at running temp. The LSN will effect how it idles and punches off the line. When you notice that becoming sluggish, you're getting too rich on it. Don't lean it, since it will only raise your temps more.
You might also look into the ACNCM cooling heads. Good prices and VERY effective.

Thanks for the tips everyone, is it worth the extra money for the nova vs. the acncm? Or is the difference not enough to make up for the temp reduction? Money really isnt a issue for this part so I just want to get the best quality and most effective cooling head. I also have to get a few other things lol,

1.Pull start
2.FoC from what everyone says
3. Single steering servo (still trying to figure out what to get)
4.center diff/rear brake kit :)

Anyways hehe thanks for the tips and fast responses :)\

Ben

I got my first one several years ago for a Traxxas .15. Then it was the first thing I got for a 2.5, even before break in. Most guys at the track at that time also got the ACNCM heads and never had a problem.
Now I have a Savage 4.6, and I'm about to do the same for it.

If you're going to do the FOC go ahead and do the Center Diff conversion because it includes the FOC.

I decided to get the Pro 3.3 ACNCM cooling head. Pretty excited about it :)

Yeah mine is also, pretty excited to get it! I also finally did the FoC,pull start,RPM arms and soon to be a new servo, the FoC actually wasn't nearly as hard as I thought it was going to be, a little intimidating though when you have never opened up the tranny :) I did order the RCS Roll cage thats also on the way :) But thanks everyone for your rec's and tips i appreciate it :)

That is a pretty decent list of upgrades. Glad you did your research on what to get. I tried the Center Diff and IMO I like the RD Racing Quick turn. Only because it fit my driving style.

Post some pics of all the gooddies when you get them!!!

Mine will be at my door on Friday.
A couple of days ago when I was ready to order it for the new MT, I typed ACNCM into Google search. The 2nd or 3rd item listed had RCNT there, so I clicked on it just for curiosity.
There, from April 2004 was MY thread where I bought my very first one from 'Digital Liquid', one of our members.
That HAS to be a good sign. Small world, even on the World Wide Web.

yeah i just got a revo and I'm kinda broke right now, but those are some upgrades i will be getting in the future. i didn't cut holes in my body yet is that bad? and where should i cut them and how big?

Well, mine arrived today in the US Mail. It's my reverse module that's travelling by Fed Ex.
They sent the wrong head. The holes miss by about 1/8".
Probem is, you don't know it's wrong till it's torn down. I specified Savage X, 4.6 Big block. Since I have no idea what it would fit, I can't sell it here, and have to send it back.
Oh well, here we go again.

Man thats not good at all.... :( I got my cooling head in the mail today and put it on, but I can't seem to get ym engine to run hot enough with it on now lol, I leaned out to the point it was cutting out during high acceleration, so thats not good....so I reset everything to factory, hottest I got it without the cutting out was 170 degrees and I'm pretty sure thats low, so if anyone has any rec's on how to get it up to temp :)

P.S. Burger I cut half of the windsheild out on the drivers side (engine side) and thats the only hole I cut so far.

Both needles will bring the temp up. LSN for idle and take off, HSN for overall mix and WOT. Pick away slowly, and you'll find it's sweet spot. If it's completely broken in and wants to stay around 190 or 200 that's just fine.
