I live in Phoenix and temps are above 100F and will be for at least another month. I am considering buying a cooling head to try to keep the engine temp down. Any opinions on this? Should I use the stock head and see what happens,or buy a cooling head and install it for break-in and tuning?

You can buy a cooling head, if you want to. I would would stay stock and when the time comes for tuning, i would recomend tuning a tad rich. Then buy a cooling head.

There are several options for Phoenix now. MSJ and Biletwerks are both form Arizona, and they both work well. I have the Billetwerks, and it dropped my temps 100 degrees. But, I'm not a good tuner yet, so I use it as a crutch, instead of learning the right way. I'm getting there, but its just too hot out to fool around with tuning.
