So, speaking of octane, I once owned one of those big '66 Oldsmobile Toronado front wheel drive beauties with a 425, 4 bbl carb and dual exhaust.
Well, one morning it was SOOOoooooo cold that it just wouldn't fire up so I tapped a bit of Avgas (aviation fuel) out of a Piper Cub I had in the driveway for the winter and poured a splash into the carb. I turned the key, saw a blast of flame shoot up, heard a really loud blast but the car was running....VERY loudly.
Turns out the backfire had blown both exhaust pipes apart.

How perfect is it that the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 is won by an American and a first timer?
