Hello rc talk I put .28 force in my tmaxx 3.3 after I broke it in I pulled the engine to check the carb (wouldn’t hold its tune)and found I damaged the low speed needle after I pulled the back plate to check for leaks I noticed the rod had side to side play but no up and down is it normal to have side to side play? I plan on replacing the whole carb to fix the tuning issues.

clarifying, when you mean side to side, looking straight into the engine from the backplate, it is moving left and right? but it is not moving up and down?
are you sure it is actual slop in the con rod? or is the crank slightly rotating allowing it to move slightly?
i would be very surprised to see side to side slop in the con rod as opposed to vertical play as all the load is vertical. there isnt enough force gained by the weight of the connecting rod to wear in that way unless there was other issues either issue with materials, or something got in there and wore it down.

how much slop are you getting? there is going to be a slight bit of play, as the engine starts it will build up a film from the oil/fuel to lubricate.
