Ok seriously how can your car tell you at the SAME TIME that it's too lean AND too rich!?!?!? Seriously, my car performs too rich but if I lean it out AT ALL it over heats and performs way too lean, and then other times it'll perform sluggish but then shut off of over heating!? What the bloody hell am I supposed to do!? :shrug:
 
I did that and the damn thing is naturally too rich like that right so I gradually lean it out like you're supposed to until you find it performs just right but it never does! It keeps running sluggishly no matter what!?
 
does your carb have 2 needles? It could be that one is too rich and the other is too lean.
 
LOL...some engine specs would be nice to know. Which engine is this?

Second, mother nature plays a big part in the whole thing. One day it might be nice and dry and hot out...causing your settings to require some leaning. Another day it might be humid and cool out...causing your settings to require some richening.

Then there is the whole LSN versus HSN set up. On top of that, any air leak can play havoc with whatever setting you have. Did I even mention glo-plugs as they play into the equation.

So, can you get "conflicting" symptoms? Yup.

its hard to say w/o seeing it in person but it sounds to me like a badly worn p/s.
 
Sounds like to me you need to do some clutch work. Lots of times a bad clutch will make you think it's too rich causing you to lean it out and overheat the engine.
 
Well there's been lots of idea help posted since I was last on, let's see here. The engine is a mach .15 from a XXX-NT, it has a hsn and a lsn. The glow plug JUST got replaced for a performance one that should last longer then usual. My guess was the motor was shot too, but I don't know for sure.
 
try moving the flywheel by hand, if it moves easily, you gotta replace the p/s, if it's hard to move, then you're in the clear.

Skymax is right,a lot of factors come into play. Weather ,Glow plug, Air leaks and Engine wear.when you just have one of these factors involved it's not that bad to fix. But when you have all these things happening at once thats when you just need to have patiance, and just take your time and narrow things down.also when you adjust your carb it's very important to make small adjustments at a time( 1/12 ). Most of the carbs i have worked on are very sensitive to adjustments .Turning a needle 1/8 to 1/4 could take you from blubbering rich to extremley lean quick.

Also when you are tunning the motor keep your ear for the two speed is shifting if you have a two speed when it is tuned correctly you will hear the idle drop without the car stalling it should respond crisp on throttle & when you brake it should not shutoff.
you really need to hear it more than just turning a needle
 
Hmm,... well, my car is only single speed and I still listen to the engine when I tune to hear changes and irregular sounds. I will try the flywheel trick and see if my ps needs replacing or not and about all those factors it makes sense but seriously my car always ran so well until just not too long ago it started being really sensitive and bitchy lol. I mean and if they were SO VERY sensitive how could anyone enjoy running them if they'll just run like crap no matter how you tune it, I am hearing lots of becauses' but no solutions, I just need to know what to do really. I dunno anymore........
 
I'm gonna post this again... If I had the money I'd invest in a 1/5th scale that ran on a two-stroke gas/oil mix engine. Much less tuning hassle. Wait... No tuning hassle.

perhaps tear the engine down and make sure its well sealed when putting it back together. also make sure that your carb doesn't have any blockage or residue in it. take it apart and soak all the parts in alcohol overnight. while the engine is apart check your p/s for fit, and make sure there is no damage to the surfaces. check that your crank bearing seal in the front of the motor is in good shape. replace all your fuel and pressure lines, clean your fuel filter and flush out your tank. once all re-assembled reset the carb to factory settings, put in another new glow plug. and start fresh with your tuning. all of this should really take no more than 2 hours start to finish if you've opened up an engine before.
