Lately my two girls age 4 and 1.5 have been hogging my laptop which sits on our breakfast bar. I love that they are playing online games and using the mouse and keyboard at such a young age. Only issue is that at their age they tend to be not so gentle on the keys and love to touch the screen.

Anyone use a netbook? Are they kid friendly and durable? What do your kids use?

I've never even heard of one.. lol

got a link?

i would move the laptop back a bit and hook up a regular keyboard.. they are WAY cheaper then laptop keyboards.

Here are a few of them

Call it the computer idiot in me, but the only difference I see is price and sive of screen.

I didn't see that the Hardrive in the Asus was 160gb. But still... the processor is bigger and better (dual core). I just wouldn't buy one of them, when I could get a Dell Laptop for $100 more.

hey Dom,

we are in the same boat. My boys are the same, 4 and 2 1/2, and just love using the computer. its amazing watching them surf the net (disney) and use the mouse to get around. they started on my old laptop but they quickly beat the keyboard to hell so we opted to get them a cheap desktop rather than buying a new laptop. With the help of their daycare (they had a discount program running in Dec) we bought an e*machine for them. total cost was 300 bucks for the keyboard, mouse and box it came loaded with a decent amount of software. so where am i going with this...i say look into a cheap desktop. its enough computer for them to play games on, surf the net and use word to type out names and letters.

I'm using a asus eee pc net book at the moment and it's great for internet use and cheap (80 notes).
wireless, reasonable storage,plays movies,
i'd recommend one great fun and easy to use

Apple iMac from a few years back. The all in one units are AWESOME for kids. You can snag em on Craigslist for $30 easily ;-)

The breakfast bar is not very deep, so something with a smaller footprint would work best. Moving the laptop back still allows them to touch the screen and the laptop keyboard. I like the idea of either another desktop or the imac. I'm pretty sure the computer will get trashed in less than a year so maybe the all in one imac is the best option.

Thanks for the suggestions.
