Not sure if this is what your talking about but I use a computer driven touch screen register at work.I'm not sure who makes it but it runs on some kind of windows based OS.It's actually kinda cool because the video cams and the register all go through the PC.Everything rang up on the register is typed under the video feed so they can tell if we're skip scanning or giving out free stuff while they watch the cameras. It has to be broadcasted over the net because they can watch us from their home computers. The only bad thing about the system is that it freeze's alot and it takes forever to load up at the begining of each shift.
i have just recently purchased and set up one for the paintball shop i work at. i used the Quickbooks POS system. its very simple to setup and use. the complete setup with a barcode printer and labels ran them about $2100 plus the PC. www.quickbooks.com for info you can find POS systems on ebay for a pretty good price if you look around.
The Quickbooks POS is the one I will most likely go for.
I have also been looking at ICE It seems to have more features for half the price but who are they and how long will they be around. I like to buy 1 time and not worry. I don't want to be penny wise and dollar foolish.
What are the BAD things or things you don't like about the QB POS? How many products do you have? Can an Idiot use it? Security?
They are coming out with 3.0 soon but they wont talk about it. I don't want to get caught up in the upgrade fold. I will need to incorporate multi stores in the near future and 2.0 doesn't support it but 3.0 will. Dilemmas.
its simple to use. the hard part is entering the database. we have around 800-900 products listed. the only thing i have run into that i dont like is that any employee can change a price if they are smart enough to figure it out. i would like to see a way to block that. they have just finished setting it up and should go live with it monday. thats going to be the true test. if you are going to need to set it up in multi stores than i would wait on the 3.0. I'm kinda new to all this myself so I'm still on the learning curve . somethings i like about it is that it handles customer accounts so you get to know each costomer. you can also set up discounts per customer. QB POS also has a credit card set up so you dont need any other equipment. again its very easy to use, track invetory, see whats hot and whats not, we are very pleased with it!
