hi guys. how can ya tell if an engine has loss of compression. i know there is a tool for it. but how can ya tell without the tool

i just broke in my engine couple of days ago. at first you would have a hard time turning the fly wheel around. after brake in it goes much easier. is this good or is this a sign of loss of compression.
its a 12 engine rear exhaust.

It's supposed to get easier once it's been broken in. When it gets to the point that you feel very little compression while rotating the flywheel by hand, that's when you know you're losing compression. As long as you were patient and broke it in properly, and don't run it too lean, you'll be good for quite a while. Overheating by running too lean is what causes an early failure.

with the glow plug in. your engine is considerd good until you can turn the flywheen with no resistance.

Good rule of thumb or pinky lol . If it is easy to turn it over with your pinky it is time to get a new sleeve and piston set

ha aight. again. round on me

every things fine for me then :).. b4 the break in i tried to start it on the starter box but with little probs. engine wouldnt start. after lifting the car off the box the flywheel got jammed. so damn tight that when i tried to get it loosse with my thumb and finger i got a blister the size of my whole thumb. just by trying to turn the damn thing. must have taken the engine off from the chassis a couple of huh....... 20 times :n00bie: hehe. but all is fine now :smoke:

next time you break in an engine use a flat screw driver and all your problems will be fixed.

if you ever tried breaking in a bump start race engine 21 boy that damn thing wont turn for sh!t.when i first got into nitro i bought a race 21 tried strating it and had no luck i took it back to the lhs and told them it was frozen,i did'nt know much but then showed me and told me i had to start it at bottom dead center so it gets a running start, then loosen the glow plug, and before that put some after run oil in and let it spin on the starter with out the glow plug in,now breaking in a motor is a breeze....good luck to you and hope you enjoy your new toy..aloha
