Grrrrrrr. I feel like an idiot. I just cannot get the damn engine running for more than 5 min. Then it takes me forever to get it running again.

If I prime the engine, it will hydro lock after about 5 pulls. SO I turn the HSN all the way closed to burn off whats in the engine. It runs for about 5 sec then dies. (I dont have a primer button so I just cover the exhaust pipe opening and pull the cord about 3 times. ) Then I turn the HSN out about 5 turns and it will start. (I have tried 3 turns, 4 turns, 6 turns...only works with 5) but I cannot run the engine this way. As soon as I get past 1/2 throttle it will flood and die and will not restart until I close the HSN again. Once it starts at 5 turns I then turn it in 2 and it will run for about 5 min and die.....then i have to start all over again.

If I dont prime the engine I cannot start it no matter what my HSN is. I cannot find any doc on what the factory LSN is supposed to be set at so i have never touched it.

btw....what i mean by 1 turn = 180 degrees

Any help or ideas would be greatly ppreciated

Ofna Force .12 Red head

Came as stock mill in the Ofna LD3 I just bought

Try being less drastic with the needle. I don't know that mill but with other race engines 1/16th of a turn make all the difference in the world.

If it floods, take the plug out to clear it, don't use the HSN. Once you find the sweet spot you will know.

I agree with Eddy- Try not to be so crazy with the needles. Try resetting the needles back to factory and going from there. Make small adjustments as necessary....

My friend had that engine and he was have the same problem that you have with the primer and it won't stay running. Don't plug the exhaust and prime the fuel, just take off the fuel line from the pipe and blow on it till you see the fuel reach the carb, and STOP. It's a new engine so hydrolocking it can be very easily done. I got that engine runing for the whole tank, it ran a bit hot, but it was nothing bad. If you want, you can warm it up with a hair dryer so it can be easily started. I put about 2 1/2 turn on the HSN, it ran good like that. If you flood the engine again, don't remove anything, just turn the car over and leave the glow ignitor on the glow plug. It will burn out all the fuel, but make sure your fuel tank isn't driping or anything. Keep bliping the throttle when you get it started.

Am i correct in thinking that a "turn" is 180 degrees??

Would going to a "hotter" plug be easier for me during break in?

Anyone know where I can find the factory settings. Ofna.com is no help...

No a turn is 360 degrees. If it was a clock, from 12:00 to 12:00 would be 1 turn and from 12:00 to 1:00 would be 1/12th of a turn.

1/16th of a turn would be about 3 minutes on a clock

Ok so then I was only 2.5 turns out from close.

Thanks guys....I'll try it again after work.

Thanks for all the great advise. I was able to get it to run last night never giving it more than 1/4 throttle. Even at 1/4 throttle it seems to be running at close to 20-25mph.

After 2 more full tanks I stopped the engine, went back in the house to refill my filler bottle. Filled the tank, it started right up!!!!
 :w00t:

BUT.......I still cannot get it past 1/2 throttle. Even if I just blip the throttle past 1/2 it dies. I tried leaning it first 1/12th then 2/12th then 3/12 and at 3/12 it dies after about 2-3 min of 1/4 throttle. I dont have a temp gauge yet so I used the spit test. Lots o sizzle so I'm assuming its overheating. Let it cool and was able to get it running again by putting the HSN back to where it was earlier.

Anything else I can try......Do I still need to run a few more tanks through the engine before its fully broken in? I'm sure I will be very happy once I learn how to tweak this thing and make it run right but its very fustrating during this learning curve.

Grrrrr:angry:

Do the water test to see how hot is your engine. Put a drop of water on top of the head, and see if it boil or anything. If its gone within a few sec, its running too hot. If it's there for about 5-10 sec. then it's pretty good. You don't want the water to be on there for a long time, it means it's too cold. It's not very acurate, but it gives you an idea.

This is a low end needle problem and you need to feed it more fuel set both needles to factory if you don't know what they are I would start with 2 1/2 TO 3 ON THE Low end and 3 to 3 1/2 on the high end better richer than leaner than turn in a 1/16 at a time on the low end till she stays idle then start working the high end. and NEVER CLOSE your high end all the way go way to blow your engine. Hope this helps.

oh ya almost forgot when was the last time you changed you plug?
