Hey,

My birthday and highschool graduation is coming up soon :breakdown so my parents started asking me what I want. I was thinking there is nothing else I really need so I thought I would put a nicer engine in the Savage X.

I've been looking around for a while and have come down to these two engines. Right now I am leaning towards the Collari becuase of its size and I have had great experiences with Collari engines in the past.

What are the pros and cons of these two engines? I am only going to bash with whatever I get, just looking for the more powerful and reliable engine between the two. I would prefer rotostart but a pullstart is fine too.

I am open to other engines if you think there are better ones I should be looking at. I am trying to stay under $200 as a budget, and I can either of these two engines for $200 shipped.

Yea I have heard good things about the Picco, as well as the Collari, do you have any links to the videos of the Picco?

Anyone else have any imput?
 
I have a Collari .30 and 2 picco .27s and the 30 is very tricky to tune. The piccos are a more controllable engine and a lot less finicky to tune. The collari is a beast of an engine.
 
Hmmm I have a Collari B3 .21 aswell and it has what looks to be the same carb. I have not had a problem tuning that engine. So the Collari is more powerful than the .27s when tuned right?
 
I had the Collari 30 and my friend had the Picco 26.
He had me off the line every time (same truck, MGT).
By the time I started to catch up to him, we were out of room and had to turn around.
I sold my Collari to buy the Picco .27. The Collari was a bitch to tune for me as well. Picco is much easier.
Picco in my book is a true animal.

May hafta give the Picco .28 a try then. I wonder if the .32 is a big improvement over the .30.

Ratzo how did you like the .27 compared to the Collari as far as power is concerned?

Also anyone know if the HPI rotostart backplate fits on the Picco .28?
 
When you start to consider engines of this size (.27 and larger) for a Savage my opinion is that you will not see a big difference between the various engines. All of the engines are going to be too powerful for the suspension. You will tear up rear and drivetrain parts (you must run aluminum diff cups), you will be running constant wheelies, and when you gear up to stop the annoying wheelies your top speed will be too much for the suspension to handle. A buggy would be a different story because the CG is much lower than a Monster truck. A still run a 3-season old Picco .26 in my Savage with over 6 gallons through it and I've never seen another MT run away from me at the track.

Get the one that is easiest to maintain and tune. This is just my opinion and others will disagree.
 
I agree with you Ross but some guys just want power.

AC, the Picco .27 (in my opinion) is one of the best engines out there.
It was a better engine over all compared to the Collari .30.
Better tune, more low end punch, etc.
As for the roto start, I know it can be done, but I'll have to ask my friend how it's done.
 
Yea I am just looking for power, this truck is gonna be for sand pits and just about any offroad terrain I can find. I want too much power, and am willing to pay the price for it, rear diffs that is haha.

Ratzo, I found that OFNA makes a backplate kit for it, so rotostart will not be a problem.

Turns out I am on my way out of the hobby in a way, gotta start saving up for college. I am most likely gonna be selling off my XB8 and just keepin the savage to bash with for the summer, then off to college.

Just lookin for something fun to bash with for the summer.
 
I'd go with the picco .28 if it is anything like the 27. I've run both the picco 27 and collari 30 and the only way I have had the collari run/start/tune as well as the picco is by swapping out the sirio carb and running a nova P5 carb.
 
Well I am going with a Picco .28 guys.

I was planning on picking up the HPI Polished tuned pipe, the one that comes on the 4.6 kits, think that should work pretty well? Its pretty cheap and it comes with all the mounting stuff I need.

Also I was planning on putting on the 18T CB the truck comes with, do you think that should be good gearing for this engine?

I would imagine I am gonna get some intense wheelies unless I go way up in the gearing so I am getting the HPI wheelie bar for it.

Get the roto start. Mine is sooo tight I can't imagine trine to pull start the thing. Wish I had more to tell you about it, mine is out of my truck....put my Collari b3 in for now.
 
The pipe will be fine, I run the same one. You will need to run 18/47 or taller gearing otherwise your wheelies will be way too annoying.
 
I was told to run the 086 top end pipe on the Picco .28.It still has tons of lowend plus it will help it rev more on topend..
