When I start my car on a completly cold engine, I have to cheat and use the throttle trim sometimes to keep the engine alive long enough to put the shell on. I want a permanent fix to this problem, could it be simply my idle needle is too tight or should I adjust my LSN? If I do the pinch test, on a warm engine the car revs up for about 3 secs then dies, so it SEEMS like the LSN is normal. Also the HSN is tuned such that when I accelerate moderately I get a visible line of blue smoke (I wouldn't call it thin) but it's definitely not spitting etc.

That's what I first thought, and I did that. Right now if I open it any more, the clutch will engage and it will start crawling, which I don't want while idling. I still have this problem after opening it slightly

You want it about 1mm, or the size of the edge of a credit card at idle. Then you could try trimming down your lsn an hour or so.

There's nothing unusual about warming it up. ALL tuning should be done to a warm engine, so if it's a bit stubborn when it's cold, that's not a problem. If you start the car and expect it to rip instantly, you'll be running too lean when it's up to temp.
That's the main purpose of the trim knob on the radio. It's not there to set your idle in place of the idle screw, but it's there to assist in starting and warm up.

Yup what the old fart with the abnormally large whiskers.....sorry eyebrows said.

You need warm up the engine before putting the shell on and running it. If you think about it any metal part that is in direct or indirect contact with the engine through another metal part, will have to be saturated with heat before the engine can be tuned properly. When I'm through for the day with my truggy, I can feel the chassis being quite warm all the way to the from farthest from the engine.

OHHHHH is that so

Thanks Rolex you just gave me an epiphany there

everything makes (more) sense now. OK I'll retune the whole thing properly tomorrow on a WARM enigne

Oh another thing I hope you or someone could answer,

Right now its tuned such that it makes a line of blue smoke when I accelerate it half throttle or more (I'd say its more rich than the thin blue line people recommend, but I intend to be slightly rich), but when I put the shell on and run hot laps, the temps get up to 280F or slightly more. Does this indicate I'm too lean? My engine's the HPI Nitro Star T3.0
