OK guys, I decided to start a thread regarding all the different brands of clutches for 1/8th scale buggy racing. I'm currently trying to find an easy & reliable clutch setup for my MBX5. Here are a few of the brands I've come across. If anyone has experience with any of these clutches, please give your review/opinions below.

Well, I just put the Werks with carbon shoes on my truggy, but will have to wait till its a bit warmer out for a review. I can say corradopsi toasted his. it was set a bit too tight and had the grippy rulon shoes(Novarossi .28 mill). From eveything I have read from other racers and bashers, the Werks seems the way to go,for the $$$. $50ish +shipping from ebay. As long as you set it correctly, they are trouble free.

I put a Werks on my XB8 but no track time yet. Probably going to do the same on the LSP once I see how it does. I've read nothing but good about the werks.

I have the Werks with carbon shoes on my WS7II in my PCR Pro, but I can't help ya either, the Pro has not seen a drop of fuel since I finished the rebuild.

LOL, a bunch of shelf queens we have???? We put new clutches on and dont run them? I'm just glad i'm not the only one..............

I run the werks on my buggy, and ran it for over a year on my Savage prior to installing it on the buggy. I like it much better than a conventional 3 shoe for a few different reasons. Infinite adjustability, and adjustment is as simple as turning a nut. No more clutch springs to deal with. Clutch shoe wear is very good with carbon shoes.

I have the Fioroni Turbo Sliding Clutch on my WS7II and it is a reliable clutch. It is a bit of work to adjust as you have to clip the spring coils to get the engagement set correctly for your engine. After that it has been set and forget. I did have some trouble when assembling with getting the springs set into the grooves, but that was my fault as I didn't reshape the loop at the end to the same shape as it was before I clipped the coils.
I have been tempted to try the Werks clutch, but I already have two aluminum Kyosho clutches and the Fioroni along with a couple of composite clutches on my engines and sometimes you just have to say enough is enough.

The goods - The CRF V6 clutch is a lightweight machined aluminum flywheel is nicely knurled on the outer edge so the starting wheel can grab it and a collet is included to mate up to to the taper in the back of the unit. Six pins stick out of the flywheel to seperate the shoes and to serve as a guide to the shoe retaining plate. The clutchnut is unique in that it is threaded both inside and out. This is done so a treaded washer can sinch down on a spring in the middle that holds the shoe tetaining plate in place. What's this all about? The V6 clutch is adjustable, by using the included pin tool, you can tighten or loosen the retaining washer to alter clutch engagement. Cool hugh> With the six blue composite clutch shoes, certain and consistent clutch engagement is the name of the game here, this clutch is high tech.

The works - Because I had just tested OFNA's Ultra LX Competition buggy in the last issue, and it was ready to go, I installed the CRF V6 on the Force engine. I set-up the clutch for quick engagement, by not tightening it too much. I took the buggy out for a quick spin. I was very impressed by the quick, smooth engagement of the clutch, over fifteen minutes of consistent running, reacted the same as it did from the first time I hit the throttle. I hit the workbench for a quick tune, a half turn tighter on the spring. Back outside, the engine RPM's raised a little more and the clutch engagement was snappy, really good for coming out of corners hard. After thirty minutes of strait running the clutch hard throught the track, I was happy that its performance was very consistent. Great concept and better performance sum up the CRF clutch system.

Thanks Spit...

broken i wouldnt start another thread. all that stuff should be posted in the Power Plants section. but I'm old school and i didnt know there was so dam many kinds of them!!! wow.

I have the Orion clutch on order..From bruce. We will see How it works..

Does anyone know if it matters which "Werks clutch" will work on an OS 18TM for my Revo? They got a clutch for a Tmaxx but didn't know if I need it or if I could use a plain kit from Werks. Also, I could find any info on whether or not the Werks clutch will accept the stock CB's like whats on the Revo?

I guess this should have been first bnut is it ok to use a Werks for bashing?

Thanks
Ray

The werks clutch is great for bashing. Run the carbon shoes and you will get great bite and long wear. The nice thing about the werks clutch is you can tailor the shoes to your track or running conditions. Rulon shoes for high traction surfaces, carbon for all around running, and teflon for low traction. You can also run a combination of shoes, like 2 rulon/2 carbon etc.

Just a warning rulon shoes can wear very quickly and also need some heat in them before clutch adjustments can be made. Also make sure to put a dab of locktite on the clutch adjustment nut.

Hey thanks :hi:

Do you know if the standard clutch bells off a Revo will fit the "Werks clutch"? I also found a few Werks for sale on ebay but one suggest for a Tmaxx and the other for a Savy/TNX? Does anyone know if it matters wither way for my OS .18TM thats going on my Revo?

heres a link for the savy/TNX werks

Crf V6

I got one of these clutches but the engine nut dont fit on my Sirio 23, it says it is for an SG shaft so I think I need a standard clutch nut but can't find one that I can order. Does anybody know where to find one.

I didn't know there were 1/8th scale clutches that will fit onto a Traxxas ride.

I just dropped the werks on my p5x, and got a larger washer (v. thin, half mm), bearing, clutch bell, bearing, another washer, the kysho sunk adaptor and the hex screw. With this setup, there's little axial play on the cbell but I can see ~1mm of the carbon shoes exposed.

It meshes nicely with the spur, but it's rather obvious the cbell's gonna be caught at the outer edge and could...cut the shoes?

If I removed the large thin spacer it would cover the shoes but the cbell wouldn't be in the *perfect* spot over the spur. Ideas?
