While I was running my LST today, I smoked the clutch.

I replaced it with the werks clutch. After about 5 minutes of running, I was checking it and noticed that the bell was extremely hot. Hot enough that it sizzled when I spit on it.

I'm pretty sure I have the engagement point right. Its not too early or too late.

So, I was wondering, is it normal to get that hot? So, hot that you'll burn your fingers?

they get hot... maybe not that hot... did you replace the CB? and if not did you sand the inside of it? it sounds like its all glazed from the previous clutch. this happens to my savage every so often. it will melt the spur gear when it gets that hot.

what type spur are you running? CB? Is your mesh right>? Is there anything rubbing up against them or one of them?

i finally got the clue after reading about the glaze inside the bell after melting 7-8 spur gears.

It can get almost that hot but hes right in the glazing, it sound like you got it figured out, good luck!

I'm running the ti-ni gears with the werks clutch.

I found part of the problem was that I needed to shim the bell away from the werks clutch end. Apparently when it moves outward it was rubbing. I've shimmed it and I'll check it out later this week.

Thanks for the tips guys!

Yeah my bro has it and its kinda odd to see the slipper do work. I really like the truck. I want to get one to try out and see how breakable it really is and what I can do to strengthen her up. I had a similar problem in my Savage as I was using the 18 / 52 geearing and the CB rubbed up on my Spur. Luckily I didn't run it like that. I was just test fitting it. I opted for the 18/49 gearing!

CB temps should be around 130 - 180.....after that they start to heat up the Crankcase bearings and cause bearing failure.....I found that while trying custom work and having clutches just get melted after 2 tanks....I think I got the info from 1 of 3 RCNitro mags I've read....
