Clutch Shoes

i have been using carbon clutch shoes and i was wondering about going to alum shoes but i dont want any troubles. what are the good and bads for both style and i race all summer long(45 different races 3 heats per race) so i need something that will last for a while-xmas-

Carbon shoes don't grab as hard, aluminum shoes grab really hard, but you need to clean em more often. They can get worn if little burrs of aluminum form, so you gotta clean em out more often.

I use aluminum shoes, cause I love the grab the give, and they have not worn fast on me, but I don't run nearly that often lol.

i like the way aluminum feels, and i run just as often. every weekend, 3 heats plus mains. aluminums need maintainance about every 2 hours of running at race pace. trim the burrs, check to make sure theres enough material left, and make sure the bearings are still good. another option you could consider is a werks adjustable clutch. with carbon shoes it can grab almost as hard as a std 3 shoe aluminum clutch, but it can last up to 2-3 gallons before it needs new shoes. and the only maintenance is checking bearings and making sure its still adjusted to engage at the correct rpm.

would it help more if i was to run 1 alum and 2 carbon or the other way around i havnt had any troubles with the carbon ones but every racer looks for that little advantage in racing

Doing that may put it out of balance, because they don't weigh the same. I would either go with Al. shoes or the werks clutch.

some guys run mixed shoes, and it does have a good feel on some tracks, but it can wear the shoes out early and prematurely for all 3. aluminum deposits rip through carbon shoes quick, and carbon deposits can cause aluminum to slip and heat up. this is why most guys have seperate clutchbells for different compound shoes.
