Hi, my Dad just picked up an HPI MT 2 4wd Stadium truck, and I have a 2.5 Maxx.

On comparing them...the HPI takes off SOOOO much smoother than my Maxx, and it has none of the "lurching" at idle that my Maxx does.

I THINK the lurching comes from the clutch on the flywheel, I have upgraded to a Robinson Racing clutch and spur gear...but I still have the lurching. Is there an upgraded clutch that will stop the lurching in the Maxx?

Also...my Robinson Racing clutch makes a bit of high pitch, almost "screeching" when the truck is lurching. It works fine though...is this noise normal, or do I have a problem.

I know the lurching isn't a big problem...but if it can be fixed, I would like to do it.

did it do the "lurching" before you installed the RR clutch and spur? in clutch you do mean the clutch bell correct? if it did it before all of those parts then it is probably the internal forward/reverse clutch inside the transmssion. all t-maxx's do that..and will clunk-clunk a little before the t-maxx scoots along. also maybe your idle is a little too high..causing the clutch to try to engage at (high)idle?
 
Yes...it did do it before the RR clutch. And I do mean the clutch bell (sorry, I'm a newb).

I can get the idle set down to where it doesn't lurch when just idleing, but it just doesn't have the silky smooth take off of my Dad's HPI.

I'm probably the only guy that is bothered by this...I'm just the type that likes everything working perfectly smooth, and that jerking just bugs me a little. :ponder:

yep its most likely your internal clutch, all t-maxx'es will do that. i noticed it also when i first got my maxx, the clicking/clunking sound and the jumping forward then take off. if it really bothers you, you can try a foward only conversion. yes, you will lose reverse (i have never used reverse since i got my t-maxx, got rid of it within first week) but you will gain in acceleration very notacibly from lower drivetrain mass, and you will have silky smooth take off, wehtehr you feather in to the gas or smash the trigger.

Oh...that's good news. :) I already have the FOC on order anyway. I didn't know that would take care of the jerking also! Thanks

hehe, is that your first upgrade/mod?? heh i didnt stop till it got rediculous 1500$ later..sheesh. (i dont regret it one bit though! haha)
 
Well...I've only had my truck a little over 2 weeks, the only mods on the truck NOW are the the RR clutch, and RPM skids and bumpers. But...I have the CyberMaxx extended chassis and rollcage, Golden Horizons cooling head, AE tuned pipe, FOC, and Duratrax header on order. :D

Everything but the CyberMaxx will be here Monday. I don't have a tracking # for the CyberMaxx yet, hopefully it will be close behind.

The upgrade bug has bitten me hard, and early! :devious:
