My buddy has a 4908 Maxx with the reddot picco on it. It's built well; the only thing stock is the tranny. He hasn't found a clutch he likes yet. He's only tried two and I can't think of the brand names. I was wondering what clutch people are running on their piccos. He wants a ton of snap in the low end. Thanks for any help.

The 3 shoe design clutch thats on the Ofna .32 Mutillator Pro may be what you're looking for.I put my Mutillator through some hard abuse and that clutch grab is simply amazing and consistent. The only thing unreal is the quality of the bearings as they arent so good. The best clutchbell thats been proven as a good replacement to get is the Robinson Racing hardened and vented clutchbell..For your setup I would also go with the addition of aluminum shoes with ceramic roller bearings.....

What gear combo is he running and how heavy is the truck? To get lots of snap in the low end he should go higher on the spurgear and lower on the clutchbell..Sometimes an engines powerband/torque output has to be finetuned to work with setup and weight with proper clutchbell and spurgear combo aswell as clutch rpm engagement to go with the gear ratio thats inside the transmission coupled to diff output ratio and tire diameter size to give proper power output without smoking things like clutches.I ran the stock traxxas flywheel, aluminum shoes, hardenedbell and spur combo in T Maxx 4908 w/Sirio.27 for awhile and it had reliability aswell as alot of lowend snap with deadstop wheelies at 22tbell/58t spur and wide ratio trans gearset..You can also change the ratio of the trans 2 more ways than it is now...A wide ratio gearset in the trans will give alot of lowend snap with a 20t bell and 58t spur over the std and close ratio gearsets....

He's running the 20/58 right now. I'm not sure how heavy it is; He's running aluminum diff cases stuffed with robinson guts, integey shock towers, aluminum skids, some gpm bulks and driveshafts(I think). He has the stock 3.3 tires on it. Rpm a arms. We geared it 23/54 for fun but it was too much. It would absolutely fly, but it wasn't what he was looking for. Stepped down to the 20/54 and replaced the clutch. I'm not sure what kind it was, but it had a hard and a soft setting. We set it to hard(lower rpm engagement) and took it for a rip. At first it seemed to slip, but after a few minutes, it was rippin' block and a half wheelies. He liked it. Plenty of top end still. A few days later he took it out and it wouldn't wheelie. Re tuned for the ambient temp; said his temps where between 215-225. Ran great but just wouldn't wheelie. I'm thinking he's a little rich on the lsn. If it idles for more than 7-10 seconds, it loads up pretty bad. He's gotta feather it until it gets up enough r's to clean out. He's about a 1/4 through his 2nd gallon on this mill. 20% byrons.
