clutch bell problems on savage

Yes it should. If it does not there are a few reasons for it.

1. Your clutchbell bearings are toast.

2. The screw that holds the cb on is pinching it into position.

If the cb does not spin freely you won't be able to idle.

Have you applied the correct shims?I had the same problem when I first got a Savage. I had new bearings, one washer behind the screw and it never allowed the CB to spin. I knew that was a problem so I got some Ofna shims. Depending on which clutch you use, shims may be necessary to use behind the collet as well to push the CB out further. This is rare.

Let us know what you do.

This is exactly what I was going to suggest. It sounds like a shimming issue.

Can you see if the bell is touching the flywheel when you have it all together?

a few drops of oil on the bearings can help out I know mine still spun but not freely. A few drops of machine oil later, it was spinning uber quick.

when i put the screw the cb doesn't spin but when it loosen it it spin a little

Your having issues with shimming. When you put everything together what do you put in.

2 cb bearings
the cb
anything that looks like a washer?

before i put the cb on i put 1washer then bearing then the cb then 2 bearings then the screw

Take the washer out and try again.

This may sound stupid, but just to clarify you are only using 2 bearings total right?

one more thing, you are trying this while the engine is not in the truck I hope.

no i have the engine out

i took the washer off and but the bearings on and now its spining freely

thanks

awesome. is it spinning fast enough to create a small (visable) vortex of air around it?

If so, you qualify for uber quick.
