Clones

I'm guessing the company's that are getting cloned, mainly HPI, mark their products up by atleast 50% or more of their total cost for all the r&d that it takes to produce them. So, for them to give more competition to the clones, they should lower their prices. Guy almost sounds like he should be writing for maxamps :hehe:

Just my two cents.

Easy to sell at 50% less when you don't spend a dime to develop the product.

See, it all works out.... :hehe:

Yeah... sad thing is Maxxamps is not even that great of a product. Bough my dad some of there "Top of the Line" batteries and the hobby king batteries out lasted them. Sad...But back on subject I am not a big clone fan just because like he said 90% are not as tough as the real ones.

I've got mixed feelings on clones.

First clones using cheap plastic. Then I realize taht all my r/c's are just representatives of that r/c anyway. How many original parts do any of us have on our rigs? I could have started with tghe original or a clone. It wouldnt make any difference.

Now, how did most of these cloners get started? Chinese sweat shops contracyed by HPI? When those same shops make a clone, whos fault is that?

I dont own any clones, but a 14 yr old kid looking at a $1000 Baja vs, $600 Raven, who can blame him?

My original T-Maxx wasn't a clone, and until I dumped over $1500 piece by piece in to it it wasn't a durable truck either.

I have thought more than once about getting a KM Baja clone. I would love to have a 1:5 scale gasser, but at $1000+ for the HPI vs $500 for the KM, that is a HUGE difference. Where the HPI may be out of reach for many people wanting to get a gasser, at 50% less the clone opens the market up to people who may not be able to get a 1:5 gasser if they only had the HPI option.

I bought my Baja when i lived in Japan and was making a 1/3 more money than I am now so I can understand the 1/5 scale clones. But then again there are some gassers that are not clones that are actually pretty decent and not too expensive. From what I have heard the Redcats are not too bad. I have not priced one in a long time but they used to be almost half the price of a Baja.

I have seen the redcat run and the clones run and you can hear the engines are just Crap. I have seen some that i thought about getting but then i wonder is it worth it to have an engine of lesser quality. But on the same token for the price you could always get a clone and buy the motor you really want and still be under what a stock hpi would cost ya

Sometimes you get what you pay for. There's clones for everything:groceries, golf clubs and kitchen cleaners just to name a few
