Hi All!....

This is my first post...... I have had my T-maxx for a few weeks now.....I just got through my first gallon of fuel. It runs great!!!

I was running it today making some high speed runs to warm it up and noticed when I apply my brakes I hear a clicking noise........I only hear the clicking as it is decellerating..... When I accellerate no clicking is present...

Anyone have a clue?? I have done a search and found some issues with the diffs....but it seems wierd to me that the clicking only happens when I apply the brakes.....

Expert opinions appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

sounds like you may have a busted servo gear. try turning the servo with your hands with the radio off. if it clicks then your servo gear is toast.

Hmmm.. interesting. ONLY when braking correct? not just off the gas.. so it shouldn't be drivetrain or it should do it even when you're just out of the throttle but not braking. Check to see if you're brake disk is not correctly in line with the brake hex... maybe it's missing and skipping. If the disk can wobble enough that it goes past the end of the brake hex at the bottom then you need to tighten the two brake pad screws a bit. this is the only thing I can think of... I've had the problem before except it was much worse than a noise.

Do some push testing. Engine off, radio on. Push the truck with the throttle open. See if it makes any noise. Then apply the brakes. Push and see what noise you get. It should be easy to find it when the truck's quiet.

Clicking while braking but not under acceleration == front diff distress

Adjust your brake tension so that you aren't completely locking the drive shaft.

The front diff is under less load while accelerating than it is under full-lock braking.

I'm going with the theory that it's diff related. When my rear diff was going, I got a clicking while accelerating. A very distinctive sound. The next time I heard it, I knew exactly what the problem was.
You can also check it by holding the brake, and raising the rear off the ground, pushing the car, and see if it does it. Then hold the front up and do it again. It's probably in the front, though, since it does it only on braking.

I would say it is the diff. My savage also clicked when brakeing I found out it was the gear that touches the ring gear. it was from a busted ball bearing.

I think this is something to look at definately

Thanks for all of the suggestions!.... I did the manual push than break and it definitely sounds like it's comming from the front!....I'll take apart the front diff and check it out....

Thanks again all!

Thanks for all of the replies!!

I got it fixed.....it ended up being a missing tooth on the diff ring gear.... While I had it apart, I also did the FOC and took out all the reverse junk! I was really surprised with how many componants I got rid of just for reverse. I'll start another post with an update on the FOC.

The Forward only parts that I used were from RRP:

RRP Forward only Conversion Kit
RRP Steel 29 tooth Forward Primary gear #8529

Thanks again all!!! I really appreciate the help in this forum!
