hi all

just wanting to know the best way of getting that cheap nasty chrome off my rims with out harming the tyres or the plastic, remember i live in england so please dont give brand names that are only availible in america ect lol, i know the nitro fuel would do it but it will perrish the tyres and plastic rims, if there is no good safe way then id like to know how to remove the glued tyres so i can get some plain rims

thx for any help

iirc oven cleaner will take the chrome off and not damage the rims but I'm not sure about the tires.

You could possibly cover the tires with foil to prevent them coming in contact with whatever chemical you use.

ill give that a go, but i think its not worth having such nice bling chrome on rims as it dont last more than a few runs of the savage before it peels off, so I'm now thinking may be best to just take tyres off if possible cos man are they over glued on, and put just plain rims on it

so whats the best way to get over glued (dam it) tyres off with out using a blade

sorry if this has been answered 100s of times

would love to be able to take tyres off with out any damage and fit them to the warlock wheel black, that way scraches ect wont show as much

after looking about the net i found 3 ways of removing factory glued tyres

first ill try boiling............which dont work at all well, boild wheel for over 40 mins and still wont budge

then baking....... well that worked a treat so in future to get tyres off rims bake em at gas mark 4 for 30 - 40 mins

acetone worries me as it seems to damage foam and tyres, bad idear in my opinion and i wont be doing this method

I'm starting to hate the way factory tyres are over glued, why not just a few dops of glue spaced out around the wheel

just like to say a big thanks for all the help, nothing like trial and error and finding out for your self tho it could have been costly due to the fact that a set of wheels for the savage cost me £68, now i have the chance of stripping that chrome off wheels with out damaging the foam and tyres

Not all factory tires are over glued,I have had many come loose after a few runs. Not available to everyone, but I bead blast the chrome off if I need to do it and I don't have to remove the tires.

phoned up hpi about the chrome peeling off my wheels, they said this does happen and asked for my email addy of which with in 1 hout they sent me a mail saying i can have any rim in any colour free of charge, well that made me a happy man, so the wheels i picked http://www.hpieurope.com/piw.php?lang=en&partNo=3186 MAG-8 WHEEL BLACK as i hate bling, wont matter about scratches ect on them rims, as for the chrome ones i shall strip and respray them

What was said above is good, or a simple search of the forum would have eliminated this re-occuring thread topic.....

on every forum I'm on new members always ask the same old question, so get use to it, its no problem, may be if ya dont want to reply the same answer just politely post the link with the answer they are looking for, I'm just happy that baking the wheels got the tyres off with out no fuss also got a free set due to being polite and showing respect, i bet hpi get loads of callers with the same old problem but they dont huff and say "not again"
