Hi guys, new to the nitro world. Just got a T-Maxx last week and loving it. Already ran 2/3 of a gallon out and cracked the fuel tank :)

Anyways, my question is, I love off roading and climbing with the T-maxx and wondering if there are any fairly cheap mods that I can do to improve low end performance. Looking mainly at a new pipe and maybe a new clutch bell/gearing setup. Can anyone make any suggestions on a good pipe for low end? Prefer one that bolts directly on as I'm not quite ready for major mods yet. Any advice on the gearing/clutch bell?? I'm not overly concerned with loss of top end as there isn't much room where I run to wind it out.

Thanks in advance,

Plankk

aright, ummm, try this
go with a smaller cluch bell. idk what the stock clutch bell is, but go maybe 2 teeth smaller, and that should do it. as for the pipe, i have no idea what to get, but i hear that long skinny pipes give low end, and short fat pipes get top end.
just my .02

also, GET A ALUM FUEL TANK!!!!!!
i have broken 3 gas tanks in the last week and it is really pissing me off. AND BENT HINGEPINS, AND STRIPPED HEAT SINK THREADS, AND BENT CHASSIS, AND F-ED UP SERVOS!!!!!,
but dont mind me, i bash at a skatepark, and woods, LOOKOUT!! TREE!!!

Here's a great article on pipes and headers. WilltheThrill got it backwards.

All about Tuned Pipes

A forward only conversion (FOC) will help too.

Here's the cheapest way to get one that I could find.

RC Boyz - TRX4994X FOC

If you still want more, you could make it 2WD. It's a cheap way to step up the power.

Thanks for the link bomber, I've been riding 2-cycle dirtbikes for 15+ years and knew about cones, bellies and manifold, but that linked made it dawn on me that the T-maxx engine is a 2-cycle. Doh!! silly me :) I should have known that.

I like the 4WD, but I HAVE considered a single speed conversion because shifting to 2nd is more of a hassle than anything else with the tight spaces I have to bash in.

I have a feeling that you would really enjoy dropping the gears. I have a 18tooth clutchbell in mine, and its perfect.

It wll hop right up on two wheels if I really want it to.
T climbs like a goat too. I have some pretty tight space myself and the gearing really helped get a lot moe out of my maxx for me.

Yup, do as Lykan said. Granted top speed will be affected but bottom end grunt will give you the low end you're looking for.

I think you have it backwards, long skinny=top end/short fat=low end.At least thats the way I've always thaught it was?

I run the Sirio big bore pipe and love it. I also run the 16 tooth clutch bell and it adds alot of low end. Be sure and throw a Motor Saver air filter on there - helps the motor breathe alot better. The FOC will add significant advantages to take off without the jerking.

I ordered a 18T clutch bell, I'll start there. It will help me all around, here in the SouthEast we have a lot of grass instead of dirt and the lower gearing will help the motor pull thru grass. If the 18T doesn't do the trick I'm going to add a tuned pipe and a 16T clutch bell. Thanks for all the advice guys. :)

yes YBLegal is correct, i too have the sirio pipe and a motor saver filter, and foc, all these will definitely improve low end... go to rcboys for that stuff..there prices are good! :)

RCBoyz will end up being your best friend. I buy something from them about once a week. LOL

Sorry for the mixup boys, i wasn't sure, but at least you figured it out. also, dont lose the 2 speed. i love it, and if you lower your gearing, you might just want to keep it. HAVE FUN!
