CEN Genesis 46 Suspension Question

Got a CEN Genesis .46. The suspension is extremely stiff. Too stiff IMO. The standard drop test to check suspension compliance where I learned that when a car hits the ground it should be like putty.

Well, its not with the Gen. Its so stiff it bounces. Compression and rebound compression is way too slow indicating too heavy a weight of shock oil.

Before I change it, just wondering if anyone has had the same experience.

If it bounces then it seems like the springs would be too stiff and/or the shock oil weight is too light. The spring will cover the rebound part and the oil will determine how fast it compress and rebounds. I would try thicker weight oil or take out some of the adjustment clips on the shocks. This will lighten up the load on the springs.

BTW, I don't have the Genesis but I wanted to see if you could answer a couple of questions for me. I am thinking about getting a set for a project I am working on and am curious about a couple of things.

---Have they leaked on you? I've heard that they have a leaking problem.
---Are they made of plastic or aluminum?
---Does the piggyback resevoir actually work, or is it fake, like on the MGT?

I forgot to mention is that the shocks tended to pack down as well. With the springs off I tried to push and pull on the shock shaft. Too slow. I also used extra clips to no avail.

I switched out to 10wt oil. The suspension feels 10x better but still a bit stiffer than I like. There is also alot of initial stiction. But once you get through that, its better. I may either switch to the #3 pistons or use a drill and enlarge the existing holes.

They haven't leaked on me so far. But I just got the truck on Friday...
They are composit plastic shocks.
The resevoirs actually work.

I'd hesitate buying these shocks for a couple of reasons. First, I don't know if there are different springs for the shocks, but 8th scale Ofna springs don't work. The shock bodies are too big. Even with a switch to thinner shock oil they are still to stiff, but I think this may be due to the 5th shock set-up. The fifth shock has to be set-up as well as the other 4....

If I was going to buy shocks, I'd try the Proline Powerstrokes....

AR, thanks for all the info. I have never seen the shocks so I currently doing research on them. I too have noticed that there isn't any aftermarket support for them. I figured finding springs for them would be pretty hard.

I intend to only use 4 shocks (2front & 2 rear) for my particular application. Did you change the oil in the 5th shock as well? Maybe you should take 4 shocks off and see if that gives you the suspension that you are looking for.

I saw that there are replacement springs for the LST shocks. So I'm now trying to find out if those would fit on the Genesis shock body. I realized that the genesis were bigger than standard 1/8 scale buggy shocks, but I didn't know if they were smaller than the LST ones.

A friend has the LSt shocks and I could measure the diameter of the springs. Can you measure the diameter of Genesis springs? You can simply slide off a spring and hold a ruler above the top of it to measure how wide the ring opening is. If they are pretty close, then the LST replacement springs might be possibly used. I am going to measure the LST spring diameter later on today and will get back with you.

I can tell you first hand that the Losi LST shock springs are too big (I've got 2 LSTs).

The LST springs diameter is way too big. The Ofna springs were closer but just a wee bit too small. You had to slide them onto the shock bodies.

I'm going to try changing the oil out of the 5th shocks. I'm trying to keep Gen as stock looking as possible. So if it all possible I'm going to make the set-up work

How about a set of savage springs? Would that fit on the Gen? Their diameter is about 5/8inch.

I did check on the LST spring and it was huge. The diameter came in at 1.25inch.

Could you tell me what the diameter of the Gen spring is?

Hey just wanted to chime in - I have several customers that want to upgrade the springs on the GENESIS - there are not a lot of options out there. I have spoken with several companies about making one but they are worried about demand and I am not willing to pony up the $$ for several hundered sets - this is what I have found that works and quite well - the REVO springs are a direct fit but it takes 2 springs and you have to fuse them togther so they do not walk. I can send you pics if interested.

Thanks for the great info. I might hold off on getting a set. Do you know if the Savage springs would work for it. They would be longer, but I don't know if the diameter is big enough. I will try to look up the diameter of the revo springs and compare it to the savage springs.

No the REVO springs are wider then the Savage - I approched a company that makes some revo springs and asked if the can make one twice as long bu thave not heard back from them yet

REVO spring Diameter - 17.25mm length 45mm
Savage 14.5mm lenght - too long for my caliper
Genesis - 17.25 length 88mm
