Howdy.

Over in my neck of the woods since there's no racing nitro in the winter, everyone around here seems to be into this carpet racing.

So I guess since I want to keep up my R/C skills and probably improve on them, I want to get a carpet car.

The thing is, I know nothing about them. I know a bit about batteries and motors and what-not, but not about what kind of cars there are, what the good ones are, what I'm likely to see at the track.. nothing. I was hoping you guys could help me out.

Perhaps there's a good site about carpet. Perhaps you could make some recommendations on what's a good car to buy - a kit is fine - I want one of the better cars you can get. I'm not looking to go cheap here, but I also don't need the absolute top-of-the-line stuff either.

What do you think?

I've heard the Losi XXX-S Graphite Plus is good on carpet, but I've personally never taken mine to a carpet track.

I like my HPI Pro 4 and have heard good things about its carpet racing performance, but i also haven't taken mine carpet racing.

I ran booth the losi & pro4 indoor carpet & I'm stickin with the Pro4

do you know if they race 10th or 12th scale? there's a big following for carpet racing around my area, but up till now it's all been 12th scale.some of the 12th scale cars I hear alot about are the crc carpet knife/bloody knife, the corrally 12sp/spm,and the trinity reflex 12.of all those I would say that the trinity is probably one of if not the nicest.you could also check out the local forum board I use and ask there, there's a ton of guys who've been racing carpet for years, here's the link....CLICK

Associated TC3, Factory Team version if you want to spend a bit more.

They run both 12th and 10th. I am thinking that I would want to start out with 10th because the folks at the track claim that the 12th scale cars break a lot easier. Since there should be plenty of people racing both, I think I'll go 10th scale to start.

Hey there, its Tony from the track. I just ordered my 1/10 scale touring car tonight. I probally should of got the Losi XXX but I went with AE and got the TC3 with a Trinity monster horsepower stock motor. I plan on running the stock class but I could always throw in a modified later down the road. Steve is running that special on the Losi for I believe 229.99 for the graphite model thats a real sweet price. You better make up your mind soon we have less then 2 weeks before we start to race.

BTW: How is the mini-t with the new motor?

Geez, everyone's going to have one of those damned XXX-S things.

Well, I guess it will make things easy - people will have parts all over the place.

I do want to get a 1/12th scale but I have been having a tough time finding any good information on the rev3/4 and others. I guess I just don't have a good starting point for it.

I do like the XXX-S, I'll probably get one of those. If they have one on Sunday I might pick it up. Currently, I don't have any battery packs and I don't have a motor, and I'll need to pick up a reciever for the thing too. I could pull the one out of my storm but I'd rather not do that. A run-of-the-mill FM synth reciever can't be too expensive, any suggestions are welcome.

I'm going to try and make it up to the track on Thursday to check it out; I'm sure I'll be able to make a descision when I see them all in action.

ps. The Mini-T is very nice with the new motor, however it's not quite as powerful as I thought it would be. Much better then stock though.

The crappy part is that after I ran one frigging pack through the thing I had to pull the brushes and clean them. It's been okay for the last couple runs though.

Your going to have to get a 1/10 very soon. I had a hard time deciding between the Losi and AE but finially just said screw it, Dave bought a Losi so I wanted to see how the two differ in handling/speed. Right now 1/12 does nothing for me. They look a bit to fragile although they are super simple. I just can't justify spending another 500 bills on another car when I havent even raced the sedan class yet.

I picked up three 3300mah unassembled cells at http://www.kinetixrc.com
These were the stage 3 packs. They run about $45 a piece which is a sweet deal.

As far as the motors go everyone on other forums say to run the Trinity Monster Horsepower Pro. can't go wrong for 28 bucks.

I'm probally just going to use the JR reciever from my xr3i, hopefully it wont be to big if not I think I have a novak around here somewhere.

Talk to you later
Tony.

Ohh yea, that car should be fine with that reciever - it's really not that big. I saw some pictures of it and it looked like they had a JR reciever in it.

I'm sure not looking forward to laying down $90+ on batteries though!

So I got the XXX-S Graphite+ thingamajig. It looks pretty good.

I still need batteries, motor, and reciever.. One of the guys at the track is selling me a charger for $100 - it's a nice one, I forget the name of it. It's like a wedge shape, it can take both AC and DC for power, it can charge at like 10 amps if you wanted to, and it can discharge at 20 amps. You probably know which one I mean..

Anyways, it looks like fun but it'll still probably be a few weeks before I get all the stuff for it that I need. And I gotta build it too.

i would research that charger and make sure your not getting taken here. there are a lot of good chargers availible for under $100 brand new. its sounds like this one is used so go online and find out how much it is new.

No I'm not getting ripped off. Like I said it's a nice charger, but I couldn't think of the name. It's a Reedy Quasar Pro, that's already been updated with the new firmware so it won't blow up batteries (apparently there was a bug in some of them.)

It's this one http://www.cmldistribution.co.uk/ree_charge.htm
Also shown here http://www.teamassociated.com/shusting/CatalogHub/reedy/new/charger.htm

Thanks for the concern though.. I do have Internet access same as you so I do a little research before buying much too =)

I'm going to pick up a couple of those battery packs from the guy you got yours from. It's a good price. I don't mind building the pack, it's all good experience.

Sweet deal, more people to race with. I got my other freind to buy the losi also. The battery Kinectix sent me are awesome batteries. Shipping was 10 bucks for three packs and he even included the battery connectors for making the packs. Shipping took about 3 day so you might want to order them this weekend. Just pull the reciever from your Storm since racing is pretty much over this weekend, even if you have to put it in its only going to take a few seconds and you can just switch profiles. For the motor you should get the pk2 or monster horsepower if not then they also recommend the green machine 3 but I dont know much about that model. You better get building racing and practicing already started.

Cya on Sunday

if you build the pack just know that you need a really hot sodering iron, preferably with a chisel tip to heat up the connector quickly. also should have a jig or borrow one. without it building a pack becomes quite a hedache.

I've got this old Weller iron that actually gets really freaking hot, but I don't have the cradle for it so it's kinda a pain. I'll hit up Radio Shack soon and see if I can get the cradle. Currently I have a sharp tip on it that I've been using for some electronic stuff, so I'll have to get a chisel tip.

I got the thing built now. Took me most of the day. I stripped out two of the alan wrenches that came with the thing - I hope they have a good set at the hobby shop, I'm going to buy a real set of alan drivers. The thing is surely not set up very well - I basically just set it up according to the book. I'm sure once I get to the track I'll be able to get things working better. I still need the motor and batteries.

It's a pretty neat car once it's all put together. Just about everything is graphite except the bumpers, which was surprising. I thought that just the chassis would be graphite and maybe the shock towers. It looks cool with the foam tires on there.

I do have a part that was missing from the box though - the little diff washers, the black ones. I was only given 11 of them, and you're supposed to use 6 on each diff. I assembled them anyways, because it will be pretty easy to put on the missing one even after it's all put together (just unscrew the thing, throw on the washer, screw it back together.)

The belt was kinda a pain - the tension pully wasn't easy to get into place. I think I have the thing on a little bit too tight but I can't loosen it right now because the alan wrench is stripped =)

I'm going to get the Monster Horsepower motor - it's the one that folks say is a good motor for the stock class.

Anyways, yea, I'll probably talk to you on .. today, in a few hours, so this will probably all be redundant =)
