Hi everyone,
I’d like to ask for your help with practical tips on properly carbureting a HARM SX5 using a Walbro 990 carburetor.
I’ve read quite a bit and watched several videos, but in real track conditions I still struggle to clearly understand when to open or close the L and H needles, and how to correctly interpret engine symptoms. Many times I’m not fully confident whether the engine is running rich or lean, so I end up playing it safe — sacrificing performance and top speed just to be able to finish the race without risking the engine.
I’d really like to better understand:
Any tips, references, or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

I’d really like to better understand:
- How to set a proper baseline from scratch
- Clear symptoms of rich vs lean conditions
- Typical adjustments based on ambient temperature and track conditions
- Common mistakes when tuning a Walbro 990 on 1/5 scale cars
- Any step-by-step tuning method that works well for you during race days
Any tips, references, or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
