I'm breaking in a new associated .15 engine which I'm putting on my duratrax and i can't get the idle low enough to stop the truck from moving because i will lower it and then it wont start.any ideas?

oh I'm not sure if i attached the new engine correctly.it is a universal shaft and the 2 gears do not match up well.it does not seem to turn smoothly either

You may need to shim your clutch bell to line up the gears. If they do not turn smoothly, you may have different pitch gears, but I'm pretty sure they should all be the same for nitro (1.0 pitch I believe). The mesh may be too tight, causing it to not be smooth.

sorry what do you mean shim the clutch bell?i did loosen it up a bit so that they arent so tight up against each other.I'm not to familiar with the vocabulary...so I'm not sure about the pitch either

Shimming the clutch bell is done by adding thin washers behind the inner bearing to better center the gear with the spur.

The pitch refers to the size, angle and spacing of each tooth on the gear. The pitch must be the same on the clutchbell and spur gear.

ok thanks.the pitch is fine because those are the 2 gears that came with the car.the shimming is a good idea but i could not get the clutchbell off of the crankshaft...i believe when i first got the engine me or my bro must have assembled it wrong because it seems stuck...any idea on how to get it off?

ya ill try some wd 40 tomorrow i guess but i knew that would probably be the problem when i mounted the engine...thanks dude.if I'm not takin up your time would you mind listin the parts that should be inside the clutch bell

Not a lot in there. In the backside of the bell is an inner bearing and mounted on the flywheel will be 2 or 3 clutch shoes. The 2 shoe design has a spring stretched all the way around them, the 3 shoe design has an individual spring in the center of each shoe. There may be a shim on the end of the crank and nut to hold the flywheel on. That's about it.

thanks a lot man.i just hope i can get that thing off.i have tried really hard before so i just gave up and mounted it which seems to have turned out bad lol i think I'm missing the clutch shoes...thanks for the help

Good luck! BTW, not implying anything, but you did remove the screw or retaining clip on the crank first right?

dont worry about it I'm glad you are helping.i dont know that much about these yet so you will need to explain a little more.do you mean the "c" shaped part that clips around the crank?there is not one even on the outside of the clutchbell right now

haha alright ya i definately didnt have that on in the first place.i think i still have it tho.thanks a lot dude
