Does anybody owns the carbon fiber chasis side plates? do they work ok for severe bashing? I'm planning to make custom ones with 4mm with carbon fiber plates.

I've heard there was one for the Storm but they were/are expensive. If you go on the Archive and go on the news and annoucments section press ctrl + f and tye in storm and check all pages they should be there.

Just did it for you.

Yeah, the CF works great for bashing & racing. I have the Fullforce 3mm CF plates & they have held up so far. I've had my savage land & crash on several 10 ft drops & haven't had a problem yet.

Here is a tip when you are done making them. Before you put them on, take a Q-tip & put some CA glue on it. Then run the Q-tip along all of the edges of the CF. This will help reinforce the CF plates from spitting.

I think you would definitely be fine w/ 4mm. I wouldn't go any less than 3mm thick, b/c I've seen some 2mm ones crack on hard jumps. Since you are making it yourself, you might want to make an extra set in case you do happen to crack one. Other than that, go for it.

Later....:mex:

i just read on the forum about skymaxx's and the guys bash one of them broke a set of c.f. side plates

I've had my HPI 3mm ones on for about a gallon now and they seem to be holding up just fine.I haven't taken the Savage to the BMX track yet though.I may just switch back to the stock ones when I bash really hard just in case.I wouldn't want to snap one of these since they are kinda pricey.

I'll use the 4mm for the main chasis and 3mm for the rest of pieces.

I suppose that with 4mm I'll get a similar weigh, I'll let you know once I finish
