ok just to make this clear i am NOT askin for factory needle settings as i am aware of these and they are very rich as most manufactures are lol

I'm just carious were u guys are running your needles at on your savage xl!

I picked me up a used xl and the tune was all messed up so i went to factory settings and started from there

I've almost got a good tune but it seems like by the time its lean enough to shift it starts that weird Machine gun sputtering sound after a WOT pass which I'm pretty sure is a lean condition right?

I'm not sure if my LSN needs richened up a bit or if i need to maybe richen up the MSN,i know your not suppose to mess with it but I'm pretty sure previous owner did as stock settings say flush and it was about 1/2 a turn in from flush so I'm pretty sure i need to richen that up 1/2-3/4 of a turn right?

So my question is were about are you guys runnin LSN,MSN,HSN on your 5.9 xls ?

i know the HSN has the lil ring but how many turn past it would you guys say your runnin it? and how close to flush on LSN and MSN

ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APRECIATED AS I AM USUSALY PRETTY GOOD AT TUNEIN ENGINES UP BUT I JUST can't SEEM TO GET THIS 5.9 IN ITS SWEET SPOT

:D

BUMP

come on guys 10 views and nothing!

sum1 has to know how there savy xl is doin??

Calm down, it's still early. Are you using a medium plug?

Make sure you have the correct idle gap.
Put the msn at flush and leave it alone.
Put the lsn at factory, and richen the hsn after you warm it up. Richen it until it slows down noticeably and then lean it back 1/8th at a time.

Is it cold outside? Below 60° f? Wrap the head with something if it is.

If that doesn't work then you probably have an air leak, which Axial engines are known for.

Everybodies needle settings are ALWAYS differant depending on temps, elevation, and the overall conditions your running in. Best thing to do is set it to factory, then fine tune from there.

And yeah don't rush a response, 95% of the members here work in the morning, EXCEPT FOR ME BISHES!!! :D

No 1 answer for any engine.

Reset your LSN flush (If the MSN was touched, reset it, and never touch it again, even better seal it up) RESET YOUR IDLE gap, make sure its .5 to 1mm no more. Richen up your HSN two 1/8 turns out.

Get the truck started and over 200f, then adjust your idle. To do this use the LSN, counterclockwise if your revs start climbing, and clockwise if your revs drop and cut out.

Once your at temp and you can hold a idle for 1 to 2 min, steady, move to tuning the HSN. Seems like you know how to do that.

I posted on how my 5.9 is running on your thread in the nitro section.
