went through the chart and can't even get it to start now with fuel and glow plug. I'm gonna pull the motor back apart and do another inspection. Getting kinda frustrated. The truck was mine and had the same problem b4 so i gave it to a friend to try and mess with and what do u know, here it sits in my garage not running still.
 
doesn't seem to look bad but just a slight bit of tightness about a1/16-1/8 from the top. What do ya see?

someone correct me if I'm wrong but looks like that sleeve may have got pretty hot from the color of it.
 
That's what I'm thinking too. Looks like the sleeve has experienced some severe overheating frome the blued coloring. Should be straight brass looking.
 
My Os .30 VG with 5+ gallons run threw it will push the sleeve up out of the block when the piston is rotated to TDC with the head off.

That one looks like it has been run hot to me also.
Its alittle hard to see from those pics but it also appears that the sleeve is not indexed/installed in the block correctly? Is the notch in the sleeve aligned with the pin in the block??? If not and you were running it that way, look no further for the cause of your problems.
 
I didn't even notice that! Yeah really the sleeve is not seated right. Not from the looks of the pics at least.
 
ok, so first its not a crack just a little nick, and as far as the overheating, could very well be, i have never had it run long enough to overheat but maybe the the past owner did. And now for the notch on the sleeve, it should be lined up with what pin exactly? And if it wasn't lined up correctly is it shot? I never took that out, just inspected it in the block.
 
The notch in the sleeve must be seated over the pin in the block. If not, the sleeve will not be seated all the way in the block which will cause the ports in the sleeve to not be aligned correctly with the ports in the block, both side to side and up and down.
It would be impossible for the engine to run correctly or even come close to being able to be tuned if the sleeve was not installed over the pin as it should be.

Most likely the engine is now a paperweight.

you guys rock!!!!! flipped it around and lined it up and she runs!!!! Runs quite well actually. Gotto work on the idle a little bit but she revs up and hits second,Hope u dont mind if i take credit for this oneLOL. He will think I'm a genious. The guy i gave it was at his last straw with it also. Thanks so much to you all!!!!
