Hey guys... I'm having some problems, well maybe not I may be just not informed enuf.... but anyways here's my issue, I can seem to keep my trx 3.3 from overheating at idle....now I know its aircooled... so my question is that even a problem or is that just how nitro are???? I've downloaded a tuning guide of the web, maybe even this site. The first thing it says does idle for 1 minute.... this is why I'm confused a lil.... I thanks you in advance for any help....

At idle, the engine should be dropping in temp, if you just made a pass,..I agree with the lean lsn and high idle comments, get it up to running temps and make a few high speed passes and then immideately bring it in and pinch the fuel line at the carb nipple and count off exactly how many seconds it takes to stall, it should take couple seconds before she revs and then dies

Awesome guys. Ill do all this tomorrow a see wat happened... ill deff keep ya updated... also my glowplug comes out clean everytime...

Sorry. Wats exactly that mean, not really family with all the rc acronyms... wats so good about 'em??

Not an acronym
Os is the name brand
Lc4 is the part #
Plug as in glow plug.

Also check out the tuning chart on this! Forum, all corect and easy to understand info,..and like smaxxin asked give us your temps tomorow as well as the temperature outside

Hey guys.. I had it out today. And she did alright... can't seem to get the tires to stop rolling but that will be okay I guess... still was a lil difficult to keep her down... had it running well temperature wise, but not quite as mean as it should be...

Today was prolly 65 outside and had it idling at like 250ish
I forgot to do the pinch test, ill do it tomorrow...
So at WOT is should be hotter than sitting there idling???

Take the temp directly after a few wot passes monitor the temp for a minute and it should be dropping in temp,....is your idle gap set at 1mm?

I did that and it did got down in temp, but it was as mean as is should be... so I leaned the HSN but the was back to overheating...

Its only a trx 3.3 dude it isn't a mean engine, you can get yourself a better pipe but in the longrun it will never have tons of power

Well the man at the LHS said it should ride I wheelie, also why make a wheelie bar??? Cause I can't... my slipper is effin tight .. wat is the revs at WOT???

If a Traxxas 3.3 engine is properly broken in and properly tuned it should fling the front wheels on any stock T-maxx rig into the air. I am not a huge fan of the Traxxas mills especially the 3.3 because of there rod problems but they are decent powered mills though. If you are running a crappy pipe that might be some of your problem also. If your idle is set right the rig should not be rolling forward at all. If you haven't done so I would recommend pulling the engine. Tear it down clean it, and seal it up good with some good copper seal engine sealant. Traxxas engines are known for air leaks anyhow. Even a small air leak can make an engine impossible to tune correctly.

^^ had the exact same problem with a 4908 I picked up a month ago engine has great compression but for the life of me I couldn't get the sucker to tune and pull a damn wheelie without overheating ,I pulled it down and sealed everything and also lubed the oring in the carb with some green slime , fired up and running like an animal that is until a miscued backflip split the block lol

oh and +2 on the lc4 plug if you are a bit of a noob and want a bit of a wider tune window go for an lc3 you wont get as much power but makes it easier to tune on lower nitro content also.

They're not just air cooled, they need to have fuel going through them as well. Try setting the idle gap to a small paper clip and setting the lsn back to flush.

The 3.3 is a good engine, but it's highly mis-understood by a whole bunch of idiots. Think about the numbers, stupid people do stupid things and then they post their bad experience online. Yes the rods are weak, but there's no reason for one to break unless it was defective.

That being said, I currently own 6 of anything but Traxxas engines :)
