I bought a K5.9 for my X a couple years ago because it was the biggest out there and I wanted more power. Well that's what I got. This engine has tons of power.
I have ran it in -20 C temps in northern Canada all the way to 52 C temps in Kuwait and the thing still just flys and runs perfect. Not to mention I ingested some sand while bashing in the desert in Kuwait, I shut it off right away and cleaned everything back at home. I have stored it for 6 months at a time, without afterrun oil (because I think it's a hoax) and everytime I dig it out and tune it for the day it runs amazing, idles forever, wicked bottom end and stupid power at top end. This thing never misses a beat.

I have heard nothing but neg. feedback about this engine and granted there are likely duds out there but did I just get really lucky with this one or are other drivers out there loving their K5.9's???

I've heard good and bad on those engines though I haven't owned one myself. Then again,I believe there's good and bad in about any product you buy. Likewise,I'm not a fan of ARO.
But you did get super lucky on the sand issue.

It's always good to hear someone that's really pleased with their rig

lucky you mines a peace of crap runs hot, wont keep a tune, poopy bottom end. all around a poopy mill. but that's good to here hpi put out at least one good one. if i was you i would hold on to it for dear life,
