This any good? I found one on Craigslist, though I think it might be a scam, because the asking price is only $120. There were no pics on the page, so I emailed the seller for pics. Seems to me if it works, it's a steal.

Don't do it. That camera goes for over 400. I've been looking at the XS1, 599 with 2 lenses.
There's GOT to be something very wrong with it, or it's stolen.

I've been looking at other CL listings around the state. He's got the same listing for every location on the list, and claims that it's in each location.

Dang, I need a good camera.

Go to http://www.adorama.com/, or http://www.bhphotovideo.com/ ...... does the XS stand for extra small??????

Canons are fantastic. Too many eos this-n-that models, why call em all eos, it's like looking at Yamaha products!

I went with Nikon. I Have a D80 and a D300s. A D90 is nice, too.

Like buying a gun, first shop for the price of the bullets before you buy the gun, then you know if you can afford the bullets. Same with cameras. Shop for the lenses you would like. Compare then you know what to buy. Of course Sigma will make a lens to fit a Nikon or a canon, but f*** Sigma!

Again, like a gun... you have two hands (Shoes come in sizes to fit) you need to chose a frame that fits comfortable in your hand. For me and Smith & Wesson, I like an L frame, thats a big hand, and the eos rebels I picked up were too small for my hand. Other camera bodies are larger, you need to consider the size of the camera body, too.

The Nikon D3000 and D5000 are crap. And never buy a Kit Lens Combo, as far as Nikon Goes. Buy The "Body Only"!

If you're strapped those kit lenses sell like crazy on eBay.
I can't speak for Canon kit lenses, I don't know.

But for an SLR, you have two choices of camera brands and they both end with the letter "n". Unless you want a cool Leica. There are also some cool Panasonic point and shoot cameras with Leica lenses. and very much the same as the Leica cameras with a lesser price. Pentax, Minolta and definitely Olympus are junk. I can with experience speak against Pentax, (sounds like a product for feminine hygiene anyway)

Next time you watch a football game, notice what's being used by the pros: Canon, (but Canon lenses cost more than Nikon) and Nikon.

One more, I tried to save money for an "expensive" lens, and I did, but before I bought it, the price jacked up. When I was saving, the AF 80-200mm f/2.8D was $870. It jumped to $915. before I bought it in 2008. What does it go for today? http://www.adorama.com/NK80200AFNU.html Any advice I could give one thinking about buying camera gear would be to HURRY! Again, most big lenses cost more than the body. The body (WILL) may become outdated, and the lenses surely will outlive, and outlast the popular model camera bodies used today, and be attached to tomorrows, camera bodies.

Are you stuck on DSLR? there are some VERY nice "point and shoot" style cameras with every option a DSLR has, except you can't change lenses.

My mom is selling her 30d i think, i can find out how much if your interested.

I have a Canon A520, and a Kodak Z1012is SLR-type. Both are good cameras, but I want to do more racing photography, and neither are good in low-light, high-speed shots

None of the telephotos that open to f/4 (crappy "Kit Lenses")will be fast enough.

F/2.8 is the way to go

Those Panasonic Lumix point and shoot cameras are very nice. They are practically Leicas.
The lens is Leica.

There are many "point and shoot and wait" cameras, too. The lag time after you press the shutter button to when the picture snaps is so long you miss your shot.

The shutter lag time on a good SLR is less than 50 milliseconds which is by far faster than your brain can get your finger to hit the shutter button. (there are 1000 ms in one second) 50ms equals one cycle of the lowest audible tone...of 20hz (bass, sub-woofer); 100 ms is the reaction time of a human, (personally, it takes me longer but I'm not going there :)) Well, when shopping for a good point and shoot, a good shutter lag time would be 90 milliseconds.

FUN FACT: it would only take 134 ms for light to travel the earths equator, all the way around. I wish a fart would travel that fast, look out Tokyo!!!!! Thank you David Letterman............. Wikipedia, actually.
