You may have heard about this, but have you heard the actual call? You have to check this out, this is unbelievable! I cannot believe this actually happened!

Unreal!

And this is why,My parent's have new wanted/tried aol period, after hearing problems in the begining when we had dial up.We joined Msn wich was way better.

I've dealt with AOL before, and can honestly say, this does not exactly surprise me at all. The reps are rude, and try to cross sell alot. They actually make Earthlink look nice.

2 months ago I was surprised to find that I had 74 new AOL accounts listed on my Credit card. I called AOL and they insisted that they were all my accounts and I would have to cancel them all individually. I then called their fraud department and got put on hold for a Long Long time. After listening to their message that they were experiencing longer then normal hold time due to the popularity of AOL I hung up after an hour or so.

I Canceled my CC and let them know about the fraudulent charges and all was said and done. In the mail last week I got 72 of the 74 account invoices with a past due notice. I hope to hell they post them to my credit report so I can sue them. I would like nothing better.......

Doh; I glossed over for a moment. I swear I read your post, VB; I just had a blonde moment. Guess it's the nitro fumes.

The sad part is, I watch Fox news in between tanks; I must've missed that one.

I saw the interview with the guy the other day.. they played the tape too, that's pretty rediculous. He's got a pretty big heart considering he feels even the least bit guilty about getting the guy canned.

I remember back in the day of Dial up AOL used to charge by the hour... something like 3.95 and hour to use there service.... that was before they had a monthy price...... i remember I used them when i first got on the net in the early 90's they gave you like 5 hours free a month then it was like I said 3.95 an hour... holy crap that was expensive porn LOL

Thanks crazy.

My mom works for time warner cable (aol, roadrunner) even though she doesn't do that kind of stuff some of her friends that work there do.

Most of the people that work in that department are young. One of my friends is 18 and works there. Another reason why them being like that is because they have been working there for a while and still haven't been promoted. Its real easy to get a job working for Time Warner. If you need a job just go there.

Cancel the F...ing account already!!!

Don't know about the rest of ya, but that guy had way more patience than I would have. When he told me I had to listen to his little pissy sales pitch before he would cancel it. I think I would have been trying to reach through the little holes in the phone to choke the breath out of him!

Heartbreak, I had to deal with Earthlink several years ago. They charged me for internet access and I didn't have it. Took about 4 months to get the pricks off my back. Wasn't very pretty.

That is exactly why I cancelled my CC when I cancelled earthlink. Let me tell you, when you switch from them to another provider, they give you the 'you have a 30 day remorse period, you know' salespitch.

When you mention that you're getting a much better price (as I am paying $20 a month less for the same bandwidth), they start offering free time and lower prices for less features (email address's, etc).

I've also read of horror stories like yours, where they don't stop billing until 4 months later, and refuse to refund the money. Just google "Cancel earthlink".

The only advice I can give you (or anyone) when cancelling earthlink is document EVERYTHING, and make sure they know that you want it cancelled, and are keeping track. That seems to be the best way to FORCE them to actually cancel. They rely on people not looking back.

Write down the incident number, and check back within 10 days of the actual end date. Verify that it is indeed being shut off, and that you are not going to be billed.

If you do recieve an invoice, COMPLAIN RIGHT AWAY, do not ignore it.

Use a card that you don't mind killing. Kill it the instant they finalize the last payment that you want authorized.

And lastly; DON'T LOOK BACK! No matter what they offer you with, keep a firm stance, and brace yourself for numerous cross sells. They will all but pay for a call girl to keep you on their service.

I had the same probs with AOL. Except they never did cancel it. I had it for like 3 more months, and had called NUMEROUS times to cancel it, and tell them I didnt want it anymore, and I never used it for the last 3 months at all. I was ALOT more impatient than that dude. I would have told the guy to F off, Cancel my account or Ill go Tony soprano on his ass..lol.. Aol sucks and I hope the go under.

Is it Sprint that is with Earthlink?

They were calling me every other day for about 2 weeks. 'Ol lady finally signed up. Got the bill and Earthlink was tacked on it. Had cable, so why would I want to go to dial-up in the first place?

Got so bad that I had my long distance service disconnected. Had to go through 3 people to do that. Now I use one of those 10-10 numbers.

They really put it to ya if ya let em.
