Prayers go out to thousands of families that have had their homes and lives taken by wildfires in the San Diego and LA areas. 13 people have been killed and 1,100 homes destroyed.

I have had the unfortunate "pleasure" of living in SoCal during times like this. Although I have never had a fire close enough to really scare me, there have been mornings when I went to go to work and had to brush a thick layer of ash off my car. It's sobering and very eye-opening. I have seen many reports of the men and women who jump in to fight these and they are true heroes. Working tirelessly for days with minimal rest. I do hope they can gain control of these soon.

My cousin usto live a little south of San Diego..he just to visit friends there friday and he found out while being there that where he lived the house was destroyed. his firends houses were gone...

I have another friend South of Hunnington beach more Orange county area.. and I talk to him on aim and he told me that its raining ash and you can see the red glow in the sky from his front window.. he said the fires were going twards where he lived.. 3 days ago when I last talked to him.. I havnt heard anything since...

I hope they get those firefighters get rid of those fires before they do more damaze and destroy more peoples lives and everything they live for... good luck everyone out there...

My school in pasadena has been receiving a CRAPLOAD of ash. Afterschool, I hafta wipe the layers of ash off my backpack because its so thick. 5 of my friends were evaced out of their houses and the fire is gradually creeping closer to their house so everyone pray taht their houses will not get burnt down. We get really beautiful sun-rises and sunsets because of the particles, which is bad and good. Anyways, I pray that every family will be safe under god. God bless!

I'm not sure if this is really true or not, but I heard that a lot of the fires were started by some punk $ss asonists. Pisses me off if it's really true.

Unfortunately, your speculation on arson is pretty valid. So they think at this point. Which really sucks!

In addition, some of the areas that are burning are known as 'brush fire/wild fire' hazard zones. Malibu itself is a fire hazard without arson. Its almost amazing that anyone lives in these areas. Now with the fires, come the spring, mudslides will almost be inevitable. There will be no brush or trees to hold it together.

My thoughts and prayers go out to those who lost their lives, homes and loved ones. We can only hope that a massive rain would come through to help with the situation at this point.

Unfortunately several people have lost their lives.... in addition to billions of dollars in expenses and damages. I did hear a sound bite on the way work that they have 3 people in custody in regards to the purported arson. (Fry them if they're guilty)

I have lived in San Diego and when the "Santa Ana" hot dry winds kick up, watch out. No rain in the immediate forecast, only cooler weather on the west coast.
Sad

I am with Stretch, if they are proven guilty, fry the bastards. That is murder straight up. My heart and prayers are with everyone who has been affected by this.

my heart goes out to the people that have lost do to the fires, but is mother nature cleansing herself?? That part of So Cal is way over populated and needs some cleaning. For millions of years fire has been an important role in the earth renewing itself. Go buy the Tool AEnima album as there is a big message as to why this is happening.

I live in San DIego, and it's not a nice place to be at right now. All of San Diego is covered with smoke, you can't go outside without a dust mask, ash is all over the place. There are several fires in San Diego, all of them surrounding the San Diego Area (SD is the hardest hit from the fires). the death count has risen to 14 (maybe even more) SChool is out till next week, that means no Home comming and probably no halloween. The sky is a dark orange and the air is thick with Ash. Counties all around my area ar being evacuated. The Cedar fire (the largest of the wild fires) is still raging out of control, the fire near my area known as the Otay Fire is only 17% contained and still going strong. hopefully it will end soon. My prayers go out to all those who were affected by this.

PS-Not sure, but i think one of the poeple arested for arson is a hunter who lit a fire (or fired a flair) and that started the large cedar fire. I think he also admitted to doing it, he said he was trying to find his partner who he seperated from while hunting...

edit-it's 3:30 right now and it already seems like its 6 in the afternoon becaseu of the smoke....

SDMaXX, now I know what the SD in MaXX stands for..... You say Otay, is that in Otay Mesa just this side of the border? I've also heard of the fire burning from Ramona west to Scripps Ranch and farther south. Give us some more details if you care to.

StrechM, your correct the fire has burned in all those areas. the ones in ramona and scripps being the large Cedar Fire. here is a map of the fire areas in San Deigo:

The Fire has caused a lot of the big freeays to be shut down. AS you can see from the fire map, the fires are located ALL OVER san diegon mainly in the central regin and south where the OTay fire is. My house i located south of the 8 freeway, and the smoke and ash is everywhere. We just got done covering the vents on the roof of the house, the roof was covered with ash. The fire has now gone in towards the clevelend National forest (Cuyamaca Area) and much of that area is being evacuated. The air is so thick with smoke and ash, that the houses a few miles away which could usually be seen in broad day light is no longer viewable. here's a link to more info on the fire situation in San Diego.

That site is for a new station down here in San Diego. While your at the site please take a look at some of the pictures people have sent in.

SDMaXX,
Wow! From the looks of the fires it pretty much shuts down through traffic unless you can travel the coastal route. We got an e-mail today from one of our vendors in Carlsbad saying they were closed today because of the recomendations they had recieved for all to stay at home with their families.
The pics at the link you supplied are shocking to say the least! I know the areas well. I spent many years in the San Marcos, Escondio and Poway areas. My work place was located at the intersection of 8 and 163 on Camino Del Rio So. across the the parking lot from the TGIF restaraunt.
What area are you in south of 8?

I live in Spring Valley, just a few miles from Otay. When the fires began, i was able to see the smoke rise form the south and the north in my back yard. Now the skies are just filled with smoke. A few of my family members were evacuated in Escondido, but i think they were able to return and their home was untouched. Much of Mission Trails in Santee has burned and some parts of Santee where Evacuated. I live less than 20 minutes from all these fires. The closest fire to me is Otay, they evacuated an area called Jumul, and Descanso. I live about 15-20 mintes from there. only 17% of that fire has been contained, and it's still moving on northward (i believe). If the fire keeps Moving, then Rancho will be evacuated next, and if that keeps moving westward, then it will be my area soon after... Luckily i live on the ouskirts of Spring Valley, and for the fire to reach there would just be insane, but ti could happen...

I certainly know the areas and the area in which you live. The good news is the weather temp is supposed to be cooling down over the next couple of days up in the Sacramento area. It's been + - 90 degrees and the temp is supposed to move into the 60's shortly. We hope that the low pressure area is large enough to help. I said a silent prayer for cold air and rain in your area.

Yeah I've had the unfortunate pleasure of being born and raised in the greater L.A. area and still have family down there. Don't know how but my Aunt has had like 4 houses burnt down on her street but not hers she's lucky. Later

I just got off the phone with one of my friends in Rancho Bernardo and he says the damage is staggering..............come to find out another of my friends lost his home in Poway and others have been told to evacuate the areas that they live in.
FYI

UPDATE:

Well so far the fire in Otay has be contained. I was able to see the sun today, and no smoke clouded up the sky. It was the first time in the last 3 days that i was able to walk outside without a dust mask. The Cedar fire (the largest one) is still going strong. It has burned much of the Cleveland National Forest. Julian, a small historic town in the heart of the clevelend national forest was close to being burned down. Fire fighters were able to save it though. I can still see plumes of smoke from the big cedar fire and part of the otay fire, hopefully they will have the situation under control within the next few days.

as of this mornings reports a firefighter has died in the line of duty while fighting these fires. I think the death toll for civilians is still around 13. Its a shame that this happens. This website http://www.firehouse.com/ has good info sometimes on the fires out there.
