ok, i changed my mind. i was going to get a 1/8 buggy, but decided on the savage ss instead. my question is, is there anything i need to do out of the box while i'm building it? or is straight forward. some people have said that i should do some upgrades before i even build it...? i'll probably be getting it with a mx-3 and 645mg servo...

thanks:coffee:

robmobs list is a great one. Before you put it together I strongly recommend doing the four spider mod, it's much easier than tearing it back apart. But as I mentioned robmob nailed the SS's weak spots. I've done all of these except the brakes, I have had no problem with mine yet. Next up is throttle linkage, as the stock set-up is a pretty crappy set-up.

That is quite a bit of stuff. All i would do is improve the sterring with the Monster Pirate mod and get the 645MG servo to go with it. That is the main weakpoint of the savage. other than that you should be ready to go.

AC48, sorry but I have to disagree. The diffs are the biggest weak spot on the Savage SS. It is also one that requires a fairly large amount of disassembly to do later, after it grenades. The MP servo saver can be easily done after the build by removing the electronics box at any time without any real tear down. Just my .02, I feel the first Savage mod should be the diffs.

how would i do a 4 spider diff mod?? i'm not even exactly sure as to what it is, just know it has something to do with the diffs...if anyone could help it'd be great

I've put 2 gallons through my savage SS and have not had one single problem with my diffs. I agree that the 4-spider diff mod is a good idea but it is not needed.

Maybe you just aint found the sweet spot yet!, LOL, J/K. Take a look at these pics, this is what happened on only the tenth tank...

i think i'll just wait and see what happens. i'll keep it dtock until something breaks (which i'm hoping will take a while)

thanks everyone

oh yeah, one more question:

where can i get the savage for cheapest?? i'll check my lhs on the sale for memorial weekend, but if there's any place cheaper than that it'd be nice to know...

thanks again

Tower has a good deal on the SS. Don't forget the $30 off coupon code shown on the main page.

No problems with my diffs yet.............I have about 3 gallons through it.

Knock on wood.

Ncnitro's diffcup is exactly what happened to mine and I have no idea how much gas was through my truck when I received it. I pretty much feel my truck is now bulletproof after doing many mods to it.

is the rtr the same truck as the kit? i have heard some parts are chromed on the SS and not on the RTR.

Any thing major different with the trucks?

The RTR comes with a radio, a three shoe clutch, and a different tuned pipe. Oh yeah, the springs are black but have the same stiffness as the purple ss ones. Other than that they are the same truck.

The earlier list of upgrades looks good. I would HIGHLY recommend the suggested 4 spider mod. This was the only significant thing I have blown on the truck after 2.5 gallons. Remember, if you blow this SOB you may wait for weeks on backordered parts (a real good indication of why this mod is needed). Also, you can throw in some diff lock oil while you're in there to get some wicked traction.

Also realize the stock rims will round out after a couple gallons. You can address that later, though. Low pain factor.
