I'm new to the hobby and decided on the savage. id like to get a failsafe before i screw up and have it run over or wreck it. I'm ordering from rc planet and not sure what category it falls under. I'm also looking for a roll cage.

mind helpin a noob out by throwing together a list of good parts? if possible have it be water proof.

also looking at the xl version. is it worth the extra cash?

For the fail safe.

IMO you shouldn't upgrade until you break something. The Savage is great stock. If you really want to beef it up now, you can get it RPM arms, but I don't recommend it until you break some arms. Some other things I suggest is upgrading shock to big bores or LST shocks. The stock shocks are known to leak. Other than that, you should be fine. I believe the Savage comes stock with alloy diff. cups. You could upgrade to some thick TVP's from Fast Lane Machine too.

The Savage XL has a wider wheelbase and is longer. This will definitely help with rollovers and handling. I would think it's worth it, but you should probably ask someone else who has the XL. I've heard the engine has problems.

Either one of the bats will fit, the one Beason pointed out has a seperate plug for charging. Leave it accessable so you don't have to pull the battery to charge it. One other thing a Savage needs, steering servo!

I have had my Savage a couple months now and I have seen this mentioned a few times throughout the forum. Is there any certain brand or type we need for the Savage 4.6? Would definitely like to upgrade the steering, brake and throttle servos.

i would go with a hitec 645 at the least. that combined with a good 6v hump pack will really wake up your savage. you can them move the stock steering to the brakes, or replace it as well. i had a 645 on my brakes and could do endos on command.

and that servo can replace all three? The brake, throttle and steering? Thanx for the advice, and sorry for the threadjack:\

you only have 2 servos one for steering left and right, one for throttle/brake. you would have a third if you have reverse, but just about any servo will work on the shift channel.

I would recommend the steering upgrade too, from the stock plastic bushing to some bearings. Makes it easier and smoother on your servo.

The ebay URL doesn't work.;)
