Hey guys,
So I was tinkering with a dual servo steering setup on my T-Maxx, getting linkages and such right, when my receiver quit responding. I unplugged it and it was very hot, a chip inside had almost melted the plastic... My power source is the stock pack that takes 4 AA batteries (It' an old .15 Pro with the TQ3 transmitter) I used a Y-harness to split my steering channel (1) to the two servos. I don't see why that would cause any problems, but I'm no expert. So if anybody has any ideas I would appreciate it... I used another receiver and tested all my servo's and transmitter and they work fine.
My receiver model is 2215.

Is it a stock Traxxas servo? I know the older 2.5 Maxx came with plastic gear servos which are junk. I replaced the stock one in my 2.5 Maxx around 5 or so years ago with a metal Traxxas servo which later caught fire along with my receiver (I laughed when it happened cause I finally got it in running condition after 3 months and it went back to the shop 5 minutes later.) Traxxas doesn't make the best quality electronics. Maybe a servo with more torque would fix your problem. Are you using the other servo for a rear wheel steering setup?

I never run AA batteries to my receiver. Batter packs are much better but if you dont have what you need to use one the parts can be expensive to get all at once. You just need a cheap power switch that would plug into the battery pack like the JR standard switch at amainhobbies.com a battery pack like the ProTek R/C 5-Cell 6.0V NiMH Intellect Hump Receiver Pack (IB1600) at amainhobbies and a charger which will run around $100. So around $130 should cover it.

Yes, all my servos are stock, but they aren't the problem, its the receiver that burnt up. I never had any issues before I installed the Y-Harness to link two servos to the steering channel. No, I'm trying to make two servos steer my front wheels, cause one stock servo is pretty weak, and I had an extra one lying around. Yeah, I'm still saving for a rechargeable pack, that's my next upgrade.

No reason the Y harness would cause the issue with dual steering servos.
I’ve run a TMaxx many times that way without issue. Probably just a coinkadink that the receiver fried on you, or you had some frayed wires on the servos/Y harness that caused a short.

Honestly your better off just getting one nice servo for around $100 and be done with it. No need for 2 servos. The stock ones are extremely weak and like I said earlier my Traxxas electrics caught fire on my T Maxx. Traxxas electrics always seem to short out from what I've seen. I'm worried that the 4 AA batteries can't handle your setup and is overloading everything. Too much electricity going through the receiver? The rechargeable pack I brought up to you only cost around $20.

Yup, sure enough I found a short on the stock steering servo... Thanks!

Ok, that's probably better in the long run. I just had the parts so I thought I'd try to see what I could do. Thanks for the advice!
