Hey guys i have a gallon through my savage and so far i have gone through 2 pads in my spur. Why is this happening?

The slipper adjustment nut is too loose. Tighten it all the way down, then back it off no more than 1/4 turn. I run mine about 1/8th of a turn out. Also, make sure that the bushing in the spur has not gotten hot and melted it's way toward the tranny. If this has happened, get another spur, or put a washer on the nut side of the shaft and tighten it up.

And welcome to RCNT.

Idid have it tightened but it just gets to the point where the savage wont move.It was all the way tighened.

No it is not getting wet. When i took it off it look like the center of the spur was melted. Not where it goes into the transmission but the plastic on the back of the spur that keeps the pad in place. I did have a 49t to 15 but that wore out so i put on a 52t and that is wore out

Hmm. Sounds like it's slipping and causing friction. Is the slick shiny side of the slipper plate towards the spur?

I didnt know there was two different sides. Thay looked the same. On the pad and the plate there is black rubbere stuff that srcapes off too.

On mine there is a shiny side and a really shiny side. The smoothest one goes toward the spur. I'm assuming that you peeled the protector off the back of the pad and stuck it to the spur like a sitcker. Some of the sticky stuff will come out under normal useage, but not much. How much lack sticky stuff was there on your pads?

It is hard to explain. The pad just gets worn. Part of the pad was missing. and melted. Can having the slipper tightened all the way and driveing in tall grass do this.

Tall grass, probably. Generally it's not a good idea to run in tall grass too much. It puts alot of strain on everything in the drvetrain. It would be particularly hard on the clutch pads and bell and the slipper, then the stock HPI rims (the stock rims are prone to coreing out the hex sockets). Other than that, I'm kind of at a loss, never encountered this problem, only similar problems where the nut was set too loose.

From what i know when you drive the savage the smooth plate gets hot and kind of sticks to the pad. So what i dont get is why does it burn up the pad when you have it loose. isnt the slipperjust so you dont burn up your shoes when getting in a stuck spot. I guess i will buy a new pad.

The slipper is there so that on hard driving, jumping, landing and sudden stops, the shock from the drive train doesn't (or mostly doesn't) get transferred to the engine. It's kind of an insurance policy for your engine.

Sounds like what's happening is that the slipper is taking alot of strain from putting a heavy load on the drivetrain. I'd replace the spur and pad, then drive on pavement or some other hard surface (like gravel or dirt) for a while. Then check the pad and spur for wear.
