i am thinking about building an off-road track at my new house and was wondering how much space i would need for a monster truck track.
also, what mix of dirt would be good. (I use stock tires)
i have an design in mind but suggestions would be very helpful for refining

i will post pics once i build it.

u guys never let me down

I have seen that a lot of tracks have 3-5 ft lanes so depending on your track design it can be huge or small, and the more compact/tight the track is the longer it will be from start to finish.

3-5ft lanes? Are you on crack? To run monster trucks you need at least 10 ft lanes and that is even tight! You want to make it as big as you can, our track is 150x70 and its a good size. Also with MT's you don't want to have alot of 180deg turns sweepers and 90deg are the best for mt's.

me and my friend are planning on buildint a track and some trail jumps for are maxx's this summer at his grandmas house

8ft wide is th eminimum width for buggy tracks I beleive....10 ft is perfect....make a gigantic RC killing triple right in the middle so you feel manly when your mini car clears it......

Man, i have been wanting to make a track so bad. Unfortunatly, the only place i can make on is on the side of a hill... My dirt is like 100% clay... Slimy and sticky as hell, cracks like a bitch when dry...

Sounds like the dirt around here. Super slimy, slippery clay mud in the winter when it is wet, and like hardened adobe bricks in the summer. I guess we would have to add a few tons of sand to it to keep it loosened up when dry and to wick away water in the winter.

Sure wish I had enough land to build even a little test track. Oh the joys of living in the OC; no lots big enough to do what you want, even if you paid a million bucks for the dang house.

RC10 do you have any dirt local to you that's not sand....if you had about 5 guys helping you could wheel it around and build up a really cool elevation style track.......just keep laying dirt on top of it till you get the consistency you want.....I think making it on a hill would be too cool......already have embankments for the turns and you can make levels of switchback style turns......make a huge kicker w/ a ski slope style landing...you could do some evil stuff w/ a track like that.....

What do you mean by elevation style track? Like, keep it on the hill side? It is cool, but the down hill gets going fast! I will take a pic of the area i can make the track and see if anyone has some ideas... I could use my dirt, since it is somewhat expensive to haul in some dirt. All of the dirt around here is the same type... The track would have to be rebuilt every year, since my dad "has" to disc up the hill every spring...

take half of hill and transplant to area with no hill.. then you have big ol flat spot for a track... :?

Now that would be some work......no I mean make a track that has switchbacks...you know those winding roads that go up mountains.....you don't build up the flat spots you dig them in.......that way you aren't shoveling dirt up the slope you're just pushing it down as you cut into the slope.....not hard to do actually.....if you have a few friends willing to actually work for a few days you could have a track that might attract some big dogs to come and play.......maybe even start a local club......what does disc up the hill mean?....he just goes and turns the clay?.....is that for landslide issues? and does he have a tractor you could use for the track? you'd be set if he does......

Well, disc means pretty much the same thing as plow... or cultivate... Yes, we have a tractor, but it has a pretty high center of gravity and it is scary goin on the side of the hill with that thing... We just disc because the weeds grow so much, and we just plow em under... Its a once a year thing and its worth it, because when the grass dries up, it gets really annoying to mow... Anyway, i will snap some pics in a few mins...

Wow, yep, that's a hill. Unless you can make some sort of a track like Plaid says, not too many other options. You could make switchbacks all the way up and then one long straight away back to the bottom.

Tractors=wheelies! :thumbup:
