Hello everyone...long time I know...lol

Seems that R/C bug has started nibbling at me again...big surprise eh? Anyway, looking at getting into scale rigs. Thinking really hard about the Trail Finder 2. But i have a few questions...

How are they box stock? (I know it wont be like that for long...)
What other options are out there comparable in price?
Any input on electronics for it?
Any extras/upgrades i should get for it? (weak/questionable parts in the kit)

I'm sure there's already a post about this somewhere but the search didn't bring it up.

Thanks in advance for the input

NB!

The TF2 looks to be a really well-designed kit. They list all kinds of options at the bottom of its page at RC4WS.com. My preference for a motor/esc would be a good water-resistant brushless set up like the Castle Creations Sidewinder 3 and 5700 kV kit. A pair of good waterproof servos for steering and transmission are a good idea. Add a decent capacity 2s LiPo and you can run for a good long while on the trail and (if you want to cause Rolex a heart-attack) in the mud.

for some reason i knew you would be the first to reply...lol

Well, i just ordered it so....yea i have no patience...

Thanks for the info bro, I'll be looking into that setup. I was thinking a BL setup but wasn't sure which would be a good choice.

Definitely going waterproof, sorry Rolex, but it's gonna be MUUUDDYYY!!! LOL

So Hamz, hows are 5B doing brother?

Got a new shell and under-tray for it. Runs great when I can find the room to run it. I'd recommend upgrading to the full metal driveshafts:

Metal Sliders:

And I'd also get some good metal bumpers for it too.

I added all of these to my SCX10/JK build as well as lights and a winch. Once I recover from Christmas gifts I'm going to upgrade the brushless to the Sidewinder 3. I need to get some more current pictures of it posted in the near future.

It took me almost 2 years of buying parts here and there to get it where it is today. I still want some different beadlocks and a 2-speed tranny.

Here's the thread:

I'm gonna get some new pics tomorrow of the new lights and roof rack as well as the thing lit up now.

That thing looking sweet man. Lights are a must have. I'm sure mine will never be "finished".

The tires on the TF2 look kinda small...what size could I step up to and not look "bulgy"? Those on your rig look really good..not too big but not small either....fills everything up nicely.

I put the 1.5 iroks on my TF2 i just built, i run the axial wildboar driveshafts, havent got alot of time on them but most say they do just fine, i have seen nno need for the metal sliders, vut i have limited use on my TF2 with the 2 speed trans i think the 5900kv is WAY TOO FAST, i run a tekin Fx-R/ Tekin 35T motor and its plenty fast for scaling/crawling. mine is pretty much stock, besides the body lift for the tires, the drive shafts and the home made shooter shackles.

^^Agreed, unless you're turning that jeep into a FOFF rig, 5700KV is crazy high, that's touring car territory.

Whatever you do, if you're going to crawl with it, invest in a sensored brushelss setup. Unless you just really like motor cogging that is. You can pick up a whole Hobbywing combo for a very reasonable price. If you're going to play in mud and muck, just waterproof everything and you'll be fine. If you're rather put together separates, the mamba max pro is very reasonably priced, 6s capable, will do sensored, sensorless or brushed all on one ESC. It also has a great drag brake for just for crawlers. Tekin makes the ROC412 series motors specifically for crawling, and they're great motors. I have the pro4 3300kv in my Wraith (which is very close to the ROC412) and it's a beast.

I'm using the 5700kV motor because I'm running the stock Axial transmission and gearing. On 2s, it's just slightly faster than a walk (5-6 mph).

Holmes hobbies waterproof esc and 35t brush motor and a 3s lipo is what I run in my tf2 and it's got tons of wheel speed and it's super smooth at low end too

Drives shafts are a most u will break them first time u drive

I'd say get the xvds from rc4wd they give a little more turning

Different tires change the look very good also
