Thats a awesome project! let us know how it turns out and how it runs!!

Its really looking good and it looks like you have a good chunk of time making that thing!

thanks for the support, guys... we're all in this hobby together!! i suppose we live vicariously through each other to an extent... no?

i mocked up my battery trays... and they just weren't working out. so... i complete redesign was necessary!!

traysew4.jpg

this will keep them lower to the ground... lowering my CoG, and closer to the chassis itself, lowering the roll of it. the one tray on the right looks a little funny... i had to extend it about 10mm out, due to the funny shape of the revo chassis, which is sooo not symmetrical. this way, each of these 450g (about a pound) batteries, is evenly distributed, horizontally, and also vertically...

know geometry was nice... but ACAD took care of the dirty work =P

these will be made from carbon fiber, instead of my original idea of aluminum. although... if traxxas were to ever consider making a stock one of these, these trays could easily be molded right into the original chassis. the strap holes on the sides are for a strap that goes across the entire chassis. it serves a couple purposes... holding the batteries in the y axis, and supporting the trays from deflecting under serious driving conditions (read: getting some huge air...)

really... i'm ready to go! it sucks not having the means to fab this stuff up myself. i think the guy i had working on my engine mount is gonna bone me. we'll see, i haven't given up yet. hopefully Golden Horizons gets back to me about those 'Shock Plates' i call them. any of you guys work with carbon fiber? i have a guy tentatively working on them... but nothing concrete. i want to drive this thing!!!

i honestly never thought i would have all my electronics, before the chassis was done... but i'm actually glad i did, this way i was able to mock stuff up and see if it would work. anyway... i'm done talking... enjoy! i'll keep you posted!

It's coming together.
I know how you feel. I REALLY miss the days when I worked in a machine shop and had access to millions of dollars worth of neat toys to make anything I needed. There's nothing better than doing it all by yourself, and being able to see the problems before you finish it.
