1. It's and engine plate, or what?

The front of the screw driver is where it cracked.

2. Is that a common place for it to crack?

3. What is a good aftermarket "plate" that will not crack.

I hope this is the end of my spur gear mess.

that being cracked will cause issues.. i think flm makes a thicker one.

Seeing that the crack leads to the screw hole, I think the engine may have been knocked, causing the crack. I would say yes, it's common. FLM makes a nice durable motor plate. Very thich and durable.

Have you checked the motor plate bars and made sure they aren't cracked? I think you may have to replace the cross bars. Check that they aren't bent or anything.

The cross braces are still good. Not bent, broken or anything. Is it still a good idea to buy new ones?

If it's fine, then you should be okay. If you want to be safe, go ahead and buy new ones. If you're planning on buying the FLM plate, might as well buy the FLM cross bars too.

I'm not sure about that... that plate looks more weak than the stock one. Any others that are out there that are solid aluminum?

Do not be fooled by how thin the FLM plate is. It is WAY stonger than the stocker plates. I've never seen a broken one. It is hard to bend.

You could aways get the Savage XL engine plate, its thicker than the Savage X stocker plate. Thats what i have and hasn't cracked yet. JMO
