I broke off the tab that connects the red wire to my EZ start motor. The tab is broken off flush with the motor. Is there a fix for this? Is there a way to prevent my other tab from breaking off the same way?

most likely ur connections got rusty, causing the tabs to weakin and break. u could try soldiering it back on somehow. but i would just buy a pull start. but if u really want to keep the ez-start, buy a new motor. [shadow=orange]metal plus water doesn't mix[/shadow]

Yes there is. I took a small screw driver, and chipped away the plastic so more of the brass was showing.

There was just enough brass showing for me to solder the tab back where it belonged. I did this to both tabs, and soldered them both. Just remeber to use flux on the tabs and you shouldn't have a problem.

I have the SAME problem (As of this afternoon)! Ill try that Lykan! Thanks for the tip.

No problem, it helps to have a really small, sharp screwdriver. Dont try the dremel, it will chew the brass and the plastic off both at one, you will have no brass left to solder

(dont ask)

When I had an easy start, I took the back off the motor, completely removed the tabs, and soldered wires internally coming out the back of the motor, they NEVER came off again, lol.
Which easy start system is this? 2.5 or .15?

I have the 2.5 starter.

I have to say , taking the back off the motor sounds like the best long term solution so I think I'll try that.

Thanks

just like nc nitro said. just pull up the two little metal tabs and the back plate comes right off.. i did the same thing

[move][shadow=orange]but wont it be easier for dirt, oil, and water to get in the ez-start motor then? i have never takin a ez-stat motor apart so i dont know.

:puke: lol. what i said was dont u think dirt, oil, and water would be easier to get into the ez-start motor? i can't control the speed. if i could i would have it go really fast... lol.

It's just a generic isn't it? I thought about pulling the wires through the inside of the motor, but I was in a hurry to bash lol..

BTW Zandor, next time I'm on your side of the moutains we gotta go bash.. You know who to PM if you eever head to eastern/central WA

I took the motor apart and cleaned the entire starter up. There was a fair amount of sand inside it between the core and the magnets (I ran it on the beach toward the end of last summer). I sprayed it all out with WD 40 and it totally did the trick. I don't have the connections made yet because I still have to get a proper soldering iron, but it looks like it will work.

Thanks.
