I was running my Savage 25 yesturday on flat grass and suddenly it stalled. I re-started it and when i pressed the throttle the engine would rev but the truck wouldn't move. I stopped the engine so i caused no more damage, and when i tried to free wheel it along the floor by pushing it the truck wouldn't move. I have had a quick look over it and the wheels will move individually when i pick the truck up, but if i try to move it normally it won't move at all. Can anyone give me any tips on what to do? I don't want to take the truck apart as i don't really know where the problem is.

It sounds like a tranny problem. Check to make sure the set screw for the two speed has not backed out, if it has not you may have to pull it, and visually inspect the internals.

I doubt it is the diffs, you usually won't blow both of them at the same time, one or the other yes but not both. Since it stopped all together and not just one axle, this leads me to believe it is a tranny issue.

Also, check the brake linkage. If that is stuck, you will not move due to full brakes being applied.

Thanks for the help guys it does look as though it was a tranny problem. The spur gear will tun one way freely but it won't turn the other way. Is there anything else that would cause this problem other than the screw in the two speed?

Also whe trying to adjust the two-speed there is something in the way. Where the gap for the adjustment should be there is a metal strip which i cannot move. Could this be what is causing everything to not move? Is there any easy way of accessing the tranny to have a look at this?

The only way is to remove the tranny and open it up.

That metal strip is probable the second gear clutch. I assume that you figured out how to get the gap in the second gear spur to line up with the hole. But you'll have to hold the main spur in place and slowly rotate one wheel (front or rear) while keeping the other wheel (opposite the one you're holding still) untill the second gear clutch rotates into alignment.

If that's not what it is, you're definately gonna have to open the tranny to find out. But it does sound like a tranny problem.

Before you do that, make sure all the drive cups still have their drive pins (the pin that goes thru the cup and shaft). If you're running CVD's, the drive pins on those can come out and lock up the drive train.

Best of luck.
