RC Driving Style
Well, after a day at the track racing a Pro15 Tmaxx.(and beating it) My two front wheels seem to be putting out 90% more power than the back wheels. Now this could be becuase of broken or loose diffs. But I dont wanna take apart the whole rear end just to CHECK if its the differentials. Is there any way to test it? If it is the differentials what can I do or what brand should I buy? Help.
Actually...doing front wheel burnouts are pretty cool in the dirt, but I get no accelleration or rock-climbing prowess.
Please help me someone!
 
Did you check the hexes in your rims. If they strip out it seems like something is pretty screwy. Check that first before you ASSofUandMe it is something worse.
 
A simple way to check to see if the diff is totalled...nothing is 100% perfect (except taking it apart and looking), but you can keep the front wheels on the ground so they do not move. Pick up the rear of the truck with one hand holding each of the rear tires. Hold one rear tire steady and try and turn the other. It should only move a little in either direction and then resist to the point of stopping. If the wheel moves a full 360, then the diff cup has either let go or the diffs themselves are toast.
 
Well I checked the Hexes on both sides and low-and-behold the right wheel's hex well (in the wheel) is almost a perfect circle. So now what can I do to fix it? Could I just super glue something or epoxy or something?
Also, how much of a chance is there that the diffs are frickedup too?
 
The hex is most likely the problem. There is no fix if the socket is rounded out. Looks like it is time to buy a new set of rims.
 
WHAT??? Umm, in that case, how much would a pair of HPI's rims cost? and how can i get the tire off without any damage?
I'm gonna try filling up the extra space with superglue or somthing of the likes and see what happens. I dont have any more money to spend. Sky or El, give me ideas to try because My budget is about $6.50. But I need a new glo plug so make that $2.50.
 
I wouldn't go back to the stock HPI wheels. I had the exact same thing happen to me, twice. I never had a problem with the wheels until I put an 8 Port in my truck. I decided to invest in the new UFO wheels from Hot Boddies. I hope these will be able to handle a little abuse.
 
Then you are stuck with running with what you have, or waiting until you do have the money. The only other thought would be to epoxy the hex into the socket on the rim. Then give it a try. You will still have to buy new rims, but at least you might be able to run your Savage for a little while until you can afford new rims.
 
JB Weld migt work and may hold better than expoy. Just make sure whatever you use that you get the surfaces really clean and free of any oils and/or dirt. I'd suggest wiping it real good with a lacquer thinner or alcohol to remove any residue. Make sure the hex is centered and leave the wheel sit for about 24 hours to cure before using. Good luck.
 
When I get new rims-I'm looking at the Pro-Line Velocity6 weld wheels. But when I get them, what is the best way to remove the tires without harming the tires or the foams inside?

I've heard about this but never tried it, so if you do it, let me know how it works? pre heat your household oven to 350 degrees,turn it off and stick your wheels and tires in,leave in for 45min they said they wouldnt melt? it sounds believeable!
 
Yeah it kinda worked for my rustla' but now I fixed the wheel. I put epoxy and ima try it out today. I can't wait to drive the beasty again!:radio:
 
The heat thing works. I did it with a set, but I used a heat gun for model aircraft. Note: if you do this, wear some gloves, cause I didn't at first and got a real bad blister. The heat causes the CA to become brittle and you can pop the rubber right off, but most likely it won't be perfect. The rubber and foam is pretty tough and resistant to heat, just don't get it too hot. The only drawback to the heat trick is the smell. When I did it in my basement, the whole upstairs smelled like I was doing burnouts with my 1:1 car. So give your parents a "heads up" before you do it, or go to a buddy's house and do it there.

But be careful handling the hot tires, they will burn ya.

Also, stay away from the HPI rims.

One last thing, you can put the stripped rims on the front, and pull the front DBs for a 2 wheel drive savage. It's not as fun as a 4x4, but it'll work for a while, just don't dog it since all the power is going to the rear.
