on my violater there is an a arm holder of some sort that totally came off when running, lost 2 e clips and one of the screws that hold it on...

needles to say i went to towerhobbies, spent .99 on a set of clips, then spent a total of $195 on the 2 speed, tmaxx wheel adapters and jp-1 pipe... did i do good, or should i have gotten something diffrent with 200 bux and a 9.5 Violator. (i figure the violater is a good truggy base cuz the a-arms are 330mm opposed to 310 on almost every other buggy (for race legality))

wow, you still dont want to listen about regearing a buggy for MT wheels. :loser:

dont mind us telling you otherwise, none of us have built or raced truggies before, we're all idiots.

the 2 speed is geared exactly like the monster pirate, isnt that eanough?

its still pulling a 4.6ish gear ratio in 1st speed. most truggies are geared at 5.1-5.5. it will be better but you may still eat up clutches, hopefully not too fast. make sure what ever MT tires you use are on the smaller side, and light.

hahaha i do nothing small. i have 40 series big joes. they are light though

your not smart by posting that. infact thats a pretty dumb statement... i did gear down, a little, by getting the 2 speed. i was looking for the number of teeth i will need on my 1st gear spur.

studcow...do you understand this post?
he is trying to tell you your gearing still isn't low enough.....you want to be around 5:1 at least for your clutches to not be overworked.....unless you run small tires.....your response was basically a F.U. I run big tires anyway....if you want help and are asking for it but then turn around and ask the same questions expecting to get another answer you need to get a clue......if you want to understand what he is telling you just say it....or ask what that means.....it's hard to guage someones "tone" from reading a post on the internet but your's came off to me like a snotty attitude...not directed at me but just seemed like it to me.....as far as the ratio goes divide the number of teeth on your spur gear byt the number of teeth on your CB...that's your current drive ratio...if it's not around the 5:1 mark you still need to lower it.....

Yes, your ratio will still eat al. shoes not as fast but you will go through them more often than not

does anyone know where to get new gears for the 2-speed??

once you get it going it depends on whether or not you can adjust the shift point...if yes then you want a really high gear to make it scream once it kicks in.....2nd gear isn't the issue it's the strain on the clutches trying to engage and pull a high gear from the start that kills em......and it stresses your engine alot more than it should too.....once you get it going then you just want to make sure you don't get too crazy with top end....trucks aren't really built for super top end speeds....you'll end up w/ a sloppy ride that's hard as hell to control

that my friend is like finding needles in haystacks it seems.....I made one for my truggy
Dsc04375.webp

the right one is a kyosho 48t spur see th eextra holes in them?
I ground the teeth off and mounted the OFNA 62t spur gear to it....the Kyosho spur fits GS diff cups which is what I have in my truggy...this was the only way I found to get close to the ratio I wanted......I'm a little on the low side....so I made sure I use a high revving mill like a fantom....doesn't have to work hard cause I also used 1/8 scale diffs.....it will yank the front up off the ground.....in an MT that's not hard but when you've lowered the center of gravity like 2" it's a little more difficult....

yea, the ofna 2 speed uses funny looken spurgears, they have holes in them the size of a 50cent piece

I'm thinking about just returning the 2 speed and adapters, selling my buggy to my gf, and buying the Revo with the money from the return and my buggy...

giving up so easily????
I'd figured you'd at least try to make the truggy work....LOL....
to me the build/modding is more than half the fun.....if it weren't I'd have a lot less RCs

yea, i was gonna just put the 2 speed in and see if it bogs too much... but people are so presistant that 4.6 just wont let the "monster buggy" move... i prefer the name monster buggy, i wasent planning on putting a big body on, or taking off the wing for that matter lol..

any who, when the parts come in, I'm going to investigate the 2 speed... then if i can find gears for it, ill assembel, but if i cannot find the proper ratio, then all hope is lost

should still try it...every one reacts different.....might have a stiffer chassis that lets the power transfer to the driveline better....maybe your mill is real torque monster and can just handle the clutch grabbing...you can also run heavy clutch shoes and heavy springs so it engages later in the power band......all kinds of things you can try and use as learning experience for these things....you'll never get something out of the box that just kicks ass unless you drop serious coin on it....learning all the little tricks now will save you a lot of money inthe long run.....
