I was wondering if any one could help me out I have watched the video on hpi's website on how to break in my engine but I have read on here and other forum's that it s best not to touch the MSN and that's one of the first things he does! And any other advice would be helpful I'm waiting for it to warm up some but I'm very anxious to get this truck out and play with it.:D

Wait for Scrogg to pop in. He'll set you on the right path. I know that any adjustment to the msn has to be compensated for on the lsn. I've heard they're not to be touched as well.

Are you sure the guy on the vid is adjusting the MSN? He's probably adjusting the LSN....I hope. If he is adjusting the MSN for a breakin vid, he's an idiot or knows more than I do! Just use the HSN to get the truck to moveat a fairly decent rate of speed. Then adjust your LSN for decent acceleration. Drop the idle down if necessary. Run it like that for a tank. Shut it off, put the piston at BDC, let it cool completely. Repeat that for about 8 tanks. Then you can start to open it up some. Don't lean it any further unless it sound boggy when warm. Once the mechanical pinch is gone, the engine will instantly go rich. It could be at 3/4 of a gallon, it could be at 2 gallons..you never know. That's when you performance tune it and start adjusting the shift points if necessary.
MSN has nothing to do with breakin, unless it is way off from the factory. The MSN changes the transition point from LSN to HSN. So if you turn in the MSN, you have to turn out the LSN to keep the correct mixture.

Thanks for the info man I went back and watched the video again it was the idle stop screw he was adjusting to give it more throttle to get it to start with the electronics off . Then he adjusted the hsp after three tanks to start leaning it out.

Well glad it's sorted. Hope it runs good for you.

Break in for 5.9

My Son and I both own Savage XL 5.9.
Do not touch the MSN.
Get the car running off the ground and increase the IDLE speed.
Run through three tanks at idle. It will probably stall during this process, simple restart.
The guy on the video is not adjusting the MSN.
Follow rest of break in adjusting the HSN for good running after 3 tanks at idle. Mine has taken 15 tanks or more to really loosen up and required the LSN to be leaned slightly.
It is only now that I have leaned the MSN approx 1/16 turn for better performance.
My Son's has run in very well with only minor adjustment on the HSN.
We use them on a bush block (dirt racing) and at the air field for high speed runs and are very pleased. So much so, my brother has just bought one.
Hope this helps.
