just wondering some other methods to break in this motor other than the traxxas method. I've heard a few bad things about it and was wondering if anyone else had anything better.

I would say do the heat cycle method. Thats the only method I use and I get all kinds of life from all of my mills.

yeah i do the heat cycle method also. i would also do is when you turn the it on let it run for a minute then turn it off and repeat this about 9 times. i found this on the net when iwas looking for ways to do break ins. from what I've heard its a preety important part of a break in and most dont do it.

what do u mean by heat cylce. is that when u just let it idle on a stand for numerous tanks?

Basicall the heat cycle method allows the piston and sleeve to become seated for each other.

It is a very easy thing to do. Start your engine and get the temps up to between 210 and 220deg and run for about half a tank. Once you've run 1/2 a tank turn it off and let it cool with the piston at bottom dead center. Once the engine is at room temp you can do it again, do this for 5-7 tanks and you will be all set to start race tuning it.

You will notice that the more tanks you put in it your going to have to lean it a bit to get your temps up. This is a good thing, it means that your engine is becomming broken in. Take your time and when your all done you will notice that if you take good care of your air filter, don't let dirt in the fuel tank and don't let the engine get too hot while running you will get a great long life out of the engine.
