Hi guys.I recently bought a new Go 25 cxp for my raptor.I put the engine in and started doing the "heat cycle" break in as decribed in the sticky.Thing is I only have twelve minutes on the engine and I can turn the engine by hand with the glow plug out with only a slight tightness at tdc.With the glow plug in its damn near impossible to turn over however my fingers just reach the flywheel with the engine in the car,but it has quite abit of compression.is this normal after only twelve minutes?:\
 
I'm kind of a newbie myself but are you trying to turn the engine over without the plug in while it's still warm / hot?
 
Nope.Its stone cold when I checked.Only had time for twelve minutes yesterday,and I thought I would check just now which is about 14 hours later.
 
So a post gets made a sticky and when a question gets asked about the subject or the process,it gets ignored.Kinda like lhs that sell products that they dont support.
All I wanna know is...ah forget it.
 
Sorry man I would help you more if I could but I'm learning myself and I don't want to lead you in the wrong direction. Maybe try to contact the manufacturer and see if that's normal for their motors? I'm sure they can lead you down the right path.
 
Hey Stompie. Yes, this is very normal. The piston and sleeve is a very tight fit at first. It may even hang up a few times before it is completely broken in. This is called "Pinch." You want pinch as this is where your performance comes from. Heat will make it a little more loose. And, without the glow plug there is no compression so it is easier to roll past the "pinch." Be sure to heat up the engine with your heat gun or "Competition Heat" sleeve before you run this engine each time. Even after it has been completely broken in. If an engine gets to the point to where it spins free revolutions by hand, no pinch, then it has gone flat and it's time for a rebuild. I'm not saying you will not be able to turn it over, I'm saying you'll feel the "pinch" of the sleeve. Hope this helps. You have a really good engine.

stompie....you gotta give us time to respond my man ;-) We all have lives outside of RC too ya know...

With that said...yes it's completely normal. With the plug out....there is next to no compression, even on a brand new engine. With the plug in...you should struggle to turn it over by hand. Perfectly normal. Keep heat cycling it.

It's all good man. I was freaking out when I first joined too when I had questions. Figured the "new guy" was being laughed at for being so dumb (meaning me)...but the guys just don't visit the site every hour ;-)

Stompie, your "problems" is about as normal as it gets. Sounds like you still have to run the motor in. One of the things you must watch out for is the locking of the motor at TDC. Just remove the plug and rotate the motor. When this happens you will think your motor seized.

Yeah thanks moto.I read thru the forums and the guys on here are pretty keen to help a guy.Its just some of the other forums I belonged to got petty about certain things.I havent seen that here so I'm glad I joined.

PHR thanks for the info.Its is the first time I do a heat cycle breakin so I'm sh!tting my self the whole time.But now that I think about it I was doing the same basic thing with my airplane engines and they perform like a dream.I'm constantly whooping the lekky guys with them and its great to see a booing crowd shut up that quick.As for where I bash,I'm from South Africa so I'm a far way from the guys in the U.S.

get some marvel mystery oil. w/mart has it also a reg auto parts house. its good for a after run oil and geting it through a tight spot. i also use it as a air filter oil. its also good in your street cars gasoline. check out web sit "bob is the oil guy" also google "marvel mystery oil" thats the mmo home site
